Our Garden
A snapshot view of the flowers, sculpture and other paraphernalia within our garden. This record is for the many changes that have taken place over the years. This selection is bang up to date for July 2021.
The title came from the novel by Stendhal - Le Rouge et le Noir.

My dear friend, Małgorzata P , connected this image with Edith Piaf, whose talent I always admired.
This is one my favourite songs by Edith Piaf.
Again, it is not any kind of statement, just a beautiful song.

"On the table stood the most exquisite cherries, and Gerda ate as many as she chose, for she had permission to do so. While she was eating, the old woman combed her hair with a golden comb, and her hair curled and shone with a lovely golden color around that sweet little face, which was so round and so like a rose." - The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson.
In the faerie tale, as Gerda happily eats cherries, the old woman, who understands magic, brushes Gerda's memories away with each stroke of the brush, not out of any malice but simply because she is lonely and has always wanted a child.
The theme for "Smile on Saturday" for the 2nd of July is "berries and cherries". As I posted a blackberry a few weeks ago for the "Looking Close on Friday" theme of "a single berry or cherry", I decided I had better do cherries for this theme. The only problem is that aside from glacé cherries, there are none to be had in the middle of winter here. Luckily, in the warmth of November last year, I was given some cherries by a friend and being a photographer I had the presence of mind to put them on a decorative antique saucer and photograph them before I ate them. I knew this shot would come in handy one day! Now that day is here! The central cherry particularly caught my eye because it was a lighter, redder colour than all the others, which made it the focal point.
I do hope that you like my choice for today's theme, and that this makes you smile.
My Mom's gorgeous Hibiscus blossoms still blooming in October due to a mild month! You can see so many buds there still about to bloom.
Frittillaria michailkovskyi is a richly flowering bulbous plant with striking reddish-purple flowers with yellow edges.
A dainty little plant in the garden.
The common Fritillary is also known as ‘snakehead’.
Take care, be safe!
Have a superb day and thank you for your comments, M, (*_*)

The old man cactus (Cephalocereus senilis probably? It is definitely Cephalocereus sp.). To see both flowers and matured fruit body at the same time was quite interesting and unusual I'd think. Excellent park with many exotic species of cacti and succulents but labels are not always there, so a bit of guessing what species is. Cactualdea, the Cactus Park, near Tocodoman, San Nicolas de Tolentino, Gran Canaria. The Canary Islands, Spain.
In our love for flowers, we sometimes overlook just how beautiful their buds can be. This is the the bud of a Hardy Hydrangea, highlighting not only its amazing color, but also its lovely textures and furrows.
Have a safe and great Labor Day weekend, everyone!
I am one of those people who really enjoy Christmas. I enjoy it for many reasons, not least of all because I get to give gifts I have gathered throughout the year to my family and friends.
I shop for gifts all year around, and then hide them in places about the house where my partner won't find them (if they are for him) and in places out of the way for other recipients who might be visiting.
In the lead up to Christmas, my dining room becomes a wonderland of Christmas wrapping and trimmings which I joking call the Christmas Wrapping Bureau, as I usually end up wrapping all my partner's presents as well as my own. However another reason I like Christmas is that I love wrapping gifts, playing with ribbons and bright paper.
They are all done and are nestled 'neath my tree, ready for Christmas Day!
“I believe that there is luminosity hiding in the shadow of the mundane. And things that hover at the periphery of our vision. If that’s magic, then I believe in it.”
