The Indian Festival of Lights, is the most widely celebrated festival of the people from the Indian sub-continent and across the whole world. Deepavali means rows of lights, it is the festival symbolising victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. Though there are many mythological explanations to this wonderful festival, however, in the current world what the festival of lights really stands for is a reaffirmation of hope, a renewed commitment to friend ship, religious tolerance, spreading the word of peace and harmony and above all, celebration of “simple joys of life”.

Deepavali is celebrated in India to commemorate return of Prince Rama to his kingdom after an exile of 14 years. Diyas/ Candles are lighted, houses are illuminated, poojas performed and crackers are burst to celebrate this day. Rama, as per Hindu relegious beliefs is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Deepavali, or Diwali is a major Indian holiday, and a significant festival in Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Today it is celebrated across the globe as the "Festival of Lights", where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being.

During Deepavali, Indian women hang lanterns/lights outside that look like stars. Stars are considered to be the jewels of Lakshmi, the Indian Goddess of Prosperity. The hope is that the lights will attract good fortune and prosperity to their homes in the coming year.
