The prairies have been caught in a deep freeze for some time. A little while back Edmonton, Alberta was the second coldest place on Earth. This is taken near the Qu'Appelle Valley in Southern Saskatchewan.

I remember it well. I don't miss it, but I hope my family and friends there get a break soon. I spoke with many of them today and it sounds like this year is getting a bit wearing on them.

Just a quick iphone snap pf the sweet yummy pie I had the opportunity to taste for the first time yesterday while traveling to Chicago. We got this delicacy from Pizzeria Uno, and they claim to have invented the deep dish pizza. It was definitely good, but not what I expected at all. The crust is like a quiche, and I was expecting this oversized thick dough. It's not doughy at all, it's really like a pie... kinda dry and flaky, but sweet and yummy.

From January 2013, I was sure I had processed this one before, but if I have, I can't find it. So let's call this "new".

Taken a few minutes ago. This is growing in a pot by the front door.

well it time for me to wash the dishes, instead of taking photo's.

Oneonta Gorge near Columbia River Gorge, Oregon is a popular day hike near Portland. The gorge is not very accessible in the Spring, as water is typically rushing down the sides, filling up the canyon to depths of up to 20 feet.

The winter of 1988-89 was cold. Really cold. It was so cold that Union Pacific's line in Northeast Oregon through the Blue Mountains experienced severe operational problems due to the -30F temperatures.

To get around the problems, UP detoured trains through Northern California. One of the detours is arriving at Klamath Falls, Oregon on Southern Pacific's Modoc Line. The train is passing the wig wag that guarded the Tingley Lane grade crossing.

At the time, no one suspected that in less than a decade, UP would own the SP, abandoning the route this train used to reach the Northwest.

Friends have noted that this looks like fun. It is a powerful mix of fun, frustration, excitement and satisfaction. I recommend it to anyone who wants to spend hours and hours fooling around with it. Beware - I think it is addictive.

Deep Blue was an chess-playing computer made by IBM. Its name its a play of words combining IBM`s logo color (Blue) with its deep analyzing capabilities.

The computer used an artificial inteligence algorithm from the Minimax family. The playing power of these automathic game programs grows in a direct ratio to the deepness of play (number of probable future movements). Therefore the nme of the machine, Deep Blue, relates the comany´s color with its huge exploration deepness, thanks to the blend of hardware and software.

Deep Blue was the first computer to win a chess match with the current world champion at the time, Garry Kasparov. This happened on February 10th 1996. However the overall meet was won by Kasparov by 4-2. The two players met again in 1997, and on this ocassion the computer won the overall match. The software was written on C and ran under the AIX operating system. The computer was capable of calculating 200 million positions per second of game.
