I saw Paula Deen making a cake with pureed strawberries and a box mix. Okaay. But then she added a strawberry jello packet! INTRIGUED: MUST.MAKE. So I did. I decreased the sugar in the frosting by a LOT (less than 1 cup of powdered sugar instead of the recipe's 7 cups) and the frosting + cake was still very sweet. A lovely, easy cake recipe. Tried a new recipe tonight, Paula Deen's Chicken Cakes with Creole Sauce. It was good and the creole sauce was excellent, but the chicken cakes themselves needed a bit more kick, so I think next time I would stir some of the creole sauce into the cake mixture before frying and add a pinch of cayenne.
