This ad hoc acoustic supergroup started around a table at a small pub in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Ry Cavanaugh, Billy Conway, Sean Staples, Dinty Child, Jim Fitting and other friends gathered to swap songs and stories. Their lively performances and inspired versions of tunes from the dusty backroads of America's past were such a hit with fans that they decided to take their musical conversation into the studio. The two-CD debut Tabletop People ups the ante with stellar appearances by folksinger Rose Polenzani, Twinemen's Laurie Sargent, Dennis Brennan, Asa Brebner, Merrie Amsterburg, Dan Kellar, Presidents of the United States' Chris Ballew, Jabe Beyer, Tim Gearon and other luminaries. And the 18 gritty, funny, soulful performances included span a gamut of emotions and tastes that should please both adult and younger listeners.

Session Americana sit tightly around a small cafe table, ambient mics tuned to catch the whole sound of the voices and instruments. A suit-case drum kit, an old electric bass, a bunch of acoustic instruments, a field organ: This format feels very theatrical and though the musicians face each other, the audience feels drawn into the circle by the warmth, joy and camaraderie that emanate outwards by the all star cast of characters seated around the table. What keeps you coming back show after show is the same thing that any audience member longs for, great songs performed by a great band. The six core members of the band have brought enviable careers worth of experience to the “table”, featuring (current and former) members of Treat Her Right, Patty Griffin, Lori McKenna, The The, Dennis Brennan, Kris Delmhorst. The group has grown from a rag tag jam at a local pub to a regional institution, playing gigs from church coee houses to urban nightclubs to regional festival tents to large halls.

Notice the top right side- burkas for sale in one of the most modern malls in Chennai..... and by the way.... If you wanna be seen with your boyfriend or girlfriend holding hands, come to this mall. It seems if you're anybody- you have a boy friend or girl friend to hold hands with. And, best to come to this mall in tank tops and skirts above the knee. It felt as if you're not allowed to roam around inside this mall with any decency if you're wearing salvaar kamiz- especially not sari- especially if under a particular age. I am so glad I experienced Chennai 10 years ago and not today. I may have felt more comfy in being able to dress in my American ways- but I would not have experienced the culture the way I did then- now....

Unspoilt, peaceful, Georgian country parish church, mostly dating from 1719-20 but built on the foundation of a much older church. From the outside, it is a handsome church, X-plan, with an additional wing at the west end, topped by a belfry tower, containing the ducal retiring rooms. The interior, renovated 1784-5 and re-arranged circa 1870, has a typical presbyterian layout with central pulpit and three galleries. Many of the box pews have a central communion table. The north aisle of the church is taller and more sophisticated, built for the Duke of Queensberry and remaining from the earlier church. Inside the Queensberry Aisle is the real jewel of the church: the most amazing monument for the Queensberry burial vault, a baroque mural monument and free-standing baldacchino carved in 1695 by John van Nost to the design of James Smith who was also architect of the later church. A riot of swagged fabric, garlands of flowers, urns, barley-sugar columns, cherubs, skulls and pediments, all in gleaming white marble. 'There are few buildings in which baroque magnificence and presbyterian decency are so happily combined.' (George Hay, Architecture of Scottish Post-Reformation Churches). The churchyard contains some fine 17th-19th century stone monuments, many with classical ornament, including the martyr's monument to Daniel MacMichael and the 1685 monument to the children of William Lukup, Master of Works at nearby Drumlanrig.

My adolescence was moderately reclusive and relatively anti-social, and I remember many a solitary Saturday afternoon that I spent listening to (and watching) the Baseball Game-of-the-Week. I guess it was Joe Garagiola that was Dizzy' s partner on those broadcasts. I should've remembered that Dizzy was Arkansas born and bred.
I guess I could have written Dizzy a fan letter, but I never thought of it. I probably would have imagined it uncool to say that I enjoyed listening to him. Now, of course, I think fondly of those afternoons. He was an archetypal goodoleboy, I'd imagine, but he had, I think, a homespun decency and certainly a surfeit of good humor.
So this is my way of saying thanks, Dizzy, for all those blissful Saturdays, even if I had to watch way too many Yankees games when it was the Indians I really cared about.
I bought this photo to sell it, but I'd had it about five minutes when I put a crease in it (it doesn't show up in the scan). I guess now I'll have to keep it.

G-Print. Impossible to copy.
Since 1975.
1975. Bell-bottoms, disco, seaweed wallpaper in shades of brown, hair, a lot of hair, afros on every- body and voluptuous sideburns, roller-skates, Led Zeppelin. Coffee and oil is very expensive. The first disposable razor. Ali beats Frazier in the “Thrilla in Manilla”, The King is alive and kicking in Vegas and the king of Sweden is yet to be married. Gerald Ford is president in the USA, Brezhnev in the USSR. It’s the year when General Franco dies and Angelina Jolie and Tiger Woods are born.
Despite an oil crisis and prolonged recession, 1975 was a carefree time with more solutions than problems. A dualistic era where the colourful visions from the 60’s still lived but popular culture interpreted those visions in darker Kodachromatic tones. It was decency and decadence. It was the birth of the peace- and environmentalist movements, amidst a full-blown cold war.
Also, in 1975 a new paper is born – G-Print.
Since then, for 35 years, G-Print’s been loved for its overall quality and consistency by merchants and printers alike. And most importantly there’s been no significant changes in paper properties over all those years. This equals 35 years of perfection for a paper and a paper production process that is, “Impossible to copy”.
In this boxed DM, distributed to 20.000 paper clients all over Europe, Arctic Paper, the owner of G-Print, push the “Impossible to copy” message via an anachronistic box including mini examples of paper applications. A mini DM, a mini cookbook, a mini Magazine and a mini Poster and Map. All showcasing classics from 1975. Not very incidentally, just like G-Print.

Blehhhh. I feel like uploading to Flickr has gotten to be such a drag for me, and I hate that I started the year off like this! IDK what I need to do to get myself back in the proper mindset for it all but I hope I figure it out soon. January has already come and gone!
This week I had a few people messaging me with various alerts about Hike's photos being "stolen" or used without permission on a handful of sites. I wanted to thank everyone who's looking out for us and also to kind of clear up my policy about stuff like that.
For the longest time before signing up to Flickr, I had held back because I was absolutely sure that once I started posting pictures of my dog they'd get into the wrong hands sooner or later ('cause you have to admit he's a cool looking fella.) When I came to terms with the fact that there'd be no way to ensure, 100%, that this wouldn't happen, I just figured to hell with it. Let's spread the Hike love around.
I don't upload original files to limit people's ability to do much with the pictures I post, and while pasting a copyright on every photo might weed out some, in most cases it's easy enough to work around. I don't like how most watermarks look and I just don't really care to butcher my pictures for security's sake.
I have no aspirations to be a professional photographer and while I'm perfectly content with my work on a good day, it's nothing extraordinary. People who ignore the basic Flickr copyright, in most cases, are harmless violators - no profit is gained on their end. If a case ever arose where there was something more serious going on, I will fight it.
However, the small potatoes? I'm letting them slide. What I mean is, if you run across Hike on a role play game, I appreciate a word up but I'm not going to charge into battle with the droves of RPers out there, there's just too many. And frankly, I don't much care if Hike is being used as a character base. Power to him. The sites I've scouted (following up hints from fellow Flickrers) have mostly linked back to my stream (or set), and no one has claimed to either owning the dog or the photos. I was a little weirded out seeing one person using my pictures to make their own personal banners and avatars, but again going through the process of signing up to every forum to confront every person or going through the trouble of contacting the site moderators/owners, when they're all perfectly free to ignore me and keep on using the pictures, ends up being more work than necessary for something that really doesn't hurt me.
Now, places that have Hike displayed as another dog (he was recently one "Toby" on Daily Puppy) - those I would like to know about so I can have them shut down. There's only one Haiku and he's all mine. That constitutes a more direct infringement of my photos and shouldn't be tolerated.
I know a lot of people here have been victims of photo theft and most of you don't approve of it in even the slightest form. In a perfect world, yes, people would have the decency to at least ask and then to respect the rules that we set. Sadly, we don't live in a perfect world.
To everyone fighting the good fight, I commend you. I just have bigger fish to fry.
On to this week. I got this done like 5 hours ago lol. I'd been wanting to do a lot more action photos this year, and I'm going to try and have one popping up at least once a month. My first goal was getting an in-focus shot of Hike running towards me, something I almost always fail at. He gets this super crazy look when he's zooming this way - eyes wide, ears back, legs flailing this way and that - I wanted to capture it. I swear, I've been looking at some of his photos recently and thinking that if I didn't physically have him around me to make sure he's real, I'd think he's a cartoon. Look at that face!
Technically it's pretty eh but it was a gorgeous day out - I just waited too long to start snapping.
Dog's pooped from 8 hours of Zoey lovin'. Speaking of the girls, I signed up to do a monthly project with them and I haven't even uploaded one of their shots. Gotta cram it tomorrow (or perhaps tonight while I'm on a one-picture roll.)

Unspoilt, peaceful, Georgian country parish church, mostly dating from 1719-20 but built on the foundation of a much older church. From the outside, it is a handsome church, X-plan, with an additional wing at the west end, topped by a belfry tower, containing the ducal retiring rooms. The interior, renovated 1784-5 and re-arranged circa 1870, has a typical presbyterian layout with central pulpit and three galleries. Many of the box pews have a central communion table. The north aisle of the church is taller and more sophisticated, built for the Duke of Queensberry and remaining from the earlier church. Inside the Queensberry Aisle is the real jewel of the church: the most amazing monument for the Queensberry burial vault, a baroque mural monument and free-standing baldacchino carved in 1695 by John van Nost to the design of James Smith who was also architect of the later church. A riot of swagged fabric, garlands of flowers, urns, barley-sugar columns, cherubs, skulls and pediments, all in gleaming white marble. 'There are few buildings in which baroque magnificence and presbyterian decency are so happily combined.' (George Hay, Architecture of Scottish Post-Reformation Churches). The churchyard contains some fine 17th-19th century stone monuments, many with classical ornament, including the martyr's monument to Daniel MacMichael and the 1685 monument to the children of William Lukup, Master of Works at nearby Drumlanrig.
I perform a cappella singing and spoken word at the Woodview Coffeehouse in Lecanto, FL. My singing is scatting -- i.e., wordless -- and I make up the tune as I go along. No two renditions are the same.
Most of the Woodview performers are musicians singing their own or other people's work. As I listened to them over the months, I had a hankering to write a song, something that had particular music and lyrics.
Last year, an especially hefty swarm of love bugs (Plecia nearctica) gave me my opening.
"The lucky in love spend about three days together gorging on nectar and pollen, gleefully snorting tailpipe exhaust, flaunting their marathon lust on the breezes," wrote Amber Mobley last year in her St. Petersburg Times article, "Feel like telling them 'Get a room'?" "Lacking the decency to get a room, these two are intimate the entire time. Eat, copulate, repeat."
"The Nearctica Waltz" received its public premiere this past August at Denvention 3/Worldcon. I'd performed it during the speculative poetry panel and introduced it as, "a musical poem with visual aid," because I'd printed out an 8x10 of this photo and held it up for the audience.
My Friday night audience at Woodview needed no such explanation. This fall the love bugs made a rather modest (as it were) appearance in my area -- nothing anywhere close to the thick, lusty clouds last year that made me say I feel a song comin' on!
(My skill in writing music is mediocre at best, but I wanted to get the general idea down.)

This ad hoc acoustic supergroup started around a table at a small pub in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Ry Cavanaugh, Billy Conway, Sean Staples, Dinty Child, Jim Fitting and other friends gathered to swap songs and stories. Their lively performances and inspired versions of tunes from the dusty backroads of America's past were such a hit with fans that they decided to take their musical conversation into the studio. The two-CD debut Tabletop People ups the ante with stellar appearances by folksinger Rose Polenzani, Twinemen's Laurie Sargent, Dennis Brennan, Asa Brebner, Merrie Amsterburg, Dan Kellar, Presidents of the United States' Chris Ballew, Jabe Beyer, Tim Gearon and other luminaries. And the 18 gritty, funny, soulful performances included span a gamut of emotions and tastes that should please both adult and younger listeners.

Session Americana sit tightly around a small cafe table, ambient mics tuned to catch the whole sound of the voices and instruments. A suit-case drum kit, an old electric bass, a bunch of acoustic instruments, a field organ: This format feels very theatrical and though the musicians face each other, the audience feels drawn into the circle by the warmth, joy and camaraderie that emanate outwards by the all star cast of characters seated around the table. What keeps you coming back show after show is the same thing that any audience member longs for, great songs performed by a great band. The six core members of the band have brought enviable careers worth of experience to the “table”, featuring (current and former) members of Treat Her Right, Patty Griffin, Lori McKenna, The The, Dennis Brennan, Kris Delmhorst. The group has grown from a rag tag jam at a local pub to a regional institution, playing gigs from church coee houses to urban nightclubs to regional festival tents to large halls.

The interior is largely as per the kit. The corners of the decency panels were snipped off and a paper clip grabrail fitted, so they more closely matched the real thing, and an air-sprung drivers seat was fitted for the same reason. The seats were covered with printed moquette, also fitted to the decency panels, and the current style velcro fitted antemecassers are also strips of printed label which effectively hide the join on the top of the seat where the label ends.
