My final concept is decay and the innate beauty it has. Generally when something is decaying one thinks it is obsolete and disgusting. While in some cases this is true, objects that were handcrafted carefully and meticulously look great well past their hay-day. I wanted to display this in my photos and I decided the best way to do this was to get very close so that the eye can catch every detail of the once smooth and fine surface and see a small vestige of its former glory.
My photos exhibit my final concept very well and they all have unusual subject matter that is displayed very interestingly. My first photo is of a shovel that belonged to my great great grandfather and is nearly 100 years old. It works well for my concept because it is in a state of decay but is still sturdy and strong. My second photo is of a handsaw that belonged to my great grandfather. The blade is nicked and rusty but the ornate designs on the side are still intact. The third is of an old and rusty pipe clamp. It is almost completely covered in rust but the detail that shows through is very intricate. The fourth is of an old hand mixer. What was once commonplace is now rusted but unique. The final photo is of an old thermometer with the number for dead animal collectors. It has a bit of a more literal sense of decay but also it is covered in spots of rust but the old color is still vibrant in contrast to the rest of it.

Went to Mac's Apples in Londonderry today. There are a lot of apple drops on the ground in varying stages of decay. it smelled like apple cider.
