"So long
Our love's entwined
Like a helix
Don't know where I begin
Where you end
How long do we go on trying to phoenix
I just know, I just know, that this can't grow
I wrote this song to tell you I'm leaving
Afraid to say these words to your face
Must be better than a letter, a text or an email
My ride stops here at the end of the line..."

This is my Macro Monday submission for today. This week's theme is "just white paper." I used a plain white sheet of paper with my own poor cursive handwriting as well as a white envelope that I dug out of a pile of mail. I then added a parchment filter to the photo to give it an aged look.

Some of you may remember this portrait of my Mum that I posted last year. It was suggested at the time by my Flickr friend Stu (Stumayhew) that it would be interesting at some point to do something with the squares. I was inspired recently by a friend’s collection of the Led Zeppelin album, ‘In Through The Out Door’ and how important music is in our lives, how it evokes memories and stimulates our imagination. There are 6 alternate covers which you wil see, designed by HIPGNOSIS.

"My dad always said that when you're struggling with something, look at all the people around you and realize that every single person you see is struggling with something, and to them, it's just as hard as what you're going through."
I saw this abandoned toilet, beside of a caboos style storage that had been littered with grafitti. We all know we've take our planet to the toilet. Now the challenge comes, the hard choices and sacrafices for the future generations and species of our planet. Let's not wait for a "Dear John" letter to quell our abuse of our planet.
Oh, I better get off this box before I fall and hurt myself! loool thanks for listening and viewing!
Just in case some people don't know the symbols here. Usually men, in times past (USA), referred to the toilet as a "john" in casual-very casual conversations. A "Dear John" letter was a break-up letter from a girlfriend back home, sent to GI's during their tour of duty. This term has caught on and is now part of our popular vernacular.

As 2009 comes to a close, I wanted to look back and see who took the time out of their busy schedules to meet up and do some photography with. As it turns out, 2009 was a big year on meet-ups and creating new friendships. Here’s a list of those I’ve met personally in the past year (or perhaps 16mo)
Eileen (shot her wedding in Ojai)
Jeff - flamboyant cycling nerd
Cameron - brother in law and brother in Christ
Mike - my father in law and spiritual mentor and so much more
John - soon to be personal CPA
Geoff - work buddy and former roommate in Philly
Ted - local landscape photographer extraordinaire
Steve - professional landscape photographer
Mike - he shoot Sony… which is almost like being Canadian
Hector - generosity flows from this guy
Kevin - professional minimalist
Steve - Nikon carney landscape portrait artist
Jeff - Can shoot anything
Michael - certainly an up and comer
Jill None of her stuff is Junk
Tracie - So much more than just a photographer
Doug - NO one went out of their way more to become a friend.
Corrie - huge supporter of her husband Doug
Wendell - Creator of Wink’s Place, and will show up at a moments notice to shoot
Brian - His stories are almost as good as his photos; and I still owe him a beer
Kristen - former 805’r, now living in the Midwest somewhere, I dunno
Mary - Her husband will eventually arrest me for speeding
Keith a dedicated family man who will someday own his own media agency
Nicole - nicest person you'll ever meet whose puppers I will steal someday
Amy - was nice enough to meet me and the boys at the park and take our picture
Tammy - a fighter and amazing photographer
Geoff - former student now traveling the world
Bobby - grew up across the street from me, and never knew it
Chris - very cool local guy who offered to let me use his truck to visit the Racetrack
Petra - wife of Chris who has an odd affection for trolls. Haha
Ben shot his headshots and all around good guy
Ted - co-worker and very passionate about landscape and wildlife photography
Marianne - co-worker and fellow nature lover
And there are MANY more who I’ve chatted with, asked questions, mentored, got location advice, or just talked shop with and I want you to know that I appreciate your friendship very much. I hope in 2010 if I’m able to help any of you out in any way it would be my privilege.
I’m going to be at Leo Carrillo State Beach this Sunday at about 3:30pm. Sunset is at 5pm and low tide will be at 4:43 so there will be some great sunset photo opportunities (as long as we get some clouds). If you’re in the area, want to meet up, shoot, etc, that’s where I’ll be. I look forward to meeting all you other cameraheads out there, or if not sometime in the new year.
Oi, flickeiros *-*
E o livro Dear John (eu acho estranho falar "Querido John. haha). O qual é realmente muito bom! *-----*
Boa semana para todos. :D

Day six of my Jar Project! (Which you can read about and see the others here.) I drew the words canvas and songs and I have been thinking a bit about this concept for a bit! Um, I don’t know what to talk about… Maybe I’m tired or just ready for a break. I don't like the background but whatever. I tried a lot of things. Do you like my art? Can you see it?

This photo was shot just before midnight.
This photo is a blend of two different shots; one using the existing street light, and one using a Pentax AF400FTZ flash in TTL mode. Both shots were made from the exact same position and focus using a tripod. The scans came back so the two were perfectly aligned. I was not crazy about the existing light shot and the one with flash was far to harsh and truly sucked. However I decided to try combining the two to use the flash shot to fill in some of the shadow areas on the existing light shot. Using Paint Shop Pro I made the flash shot a background layer with the existing light shot on top. I then adjusted the top layer to be just slightly transparent so the flash layer would just show through in the shadow areas. This is the result.
I know this is another car shot, but I live in Los Angeles and it is a target rich enviornment for cars.

This was an impromptu calendar gift to my cousin, John!
I had to doctor up the card,
as there was one letter missing from his name!
What was not intended as a Valentine, ended up looking like one!
It was well received!
Our Daily Challenge .............Abandoned.
I ran out of time so not exactly as I would have liked. Chose the top one for the clarity of the writing but prefer the tones in the second shot.

Dear Facebook,
I am doing something drastic this night, July 10, 2011. I am un-friending you. My account will be deleted after I post this as my last update. I will take a screenshot to memorialize this moment of freedom and keep it on my forevercatalog.com site, where I am going to keep things that I think the future will find interesting (a future beyond all of our lifetimes).
Why am I doing such a thing? Honestly, I have nothing against you, we have had a great relationship, for the most part. Until you started asking for more and more control, hiding your true intentions while sharing my info behind my back to strangers.
I understand this can happen anywhere on the internet, but I thought our relationship was special, and I Trusted you. What's more, you haven't done what I have repeatedly asked: add a 'dislike' button.
You have reduced users' lives to neat status updates and banal sharing of links and clever bits of 1's and 0's in the hopes of getting 'likes'. You are playing with humanity's need for attention, acceptance and accomplishment (the three evil a's) and I am sick of playing the game in your arena.
What have you given me besides cheap clicks and a few LOLCATS laughs mixed in with pictures of people's babies, 'clever' updates by my friends and acquaintances and a giant time suck of my precious hours in the day? It sickens me how much time I have wasted.
So now, I am moving to google+ for now since it simply lets me post to different groups and gets out of the way for everything else. This may eventually go away as well if it ends up being Facebook 2.0.
If you want to get in touch with me, I am always an email away, james@eventualfuture.com. I am sorry things didn't turn out but I feel this is necessary for me to keep my humanity from seeping into little status boxes and I can only hope that other people begin to realize how much of tools they are becoming to their own creations. To the rest of you I plead -- get out of here, breathe for God's sake, and have faith in a post-attention creative society of makers and collaborators instead of selfish fat-ass consumer-driven society that promotes duping your neighbor to make a buck. I don't have any answers, but I know we can do better than this (shame on you Zuckerberg for turning this into a monster).

This picture is my response to a challenge by HarryJPhotos as part of the Rolling Challenge in the Get Pushed group:
Construct a photo that has depth and hints at a story. By that I mean that there is more than one subject. The emphasis here is that it should be constructed, not candid. Lit, or not lit, sharp throughout or no, all that is up to you.
Harry's photo stream and the 365 and other projects he is doing, show a wide interest of subjects and a good eye to find different things to shoot. Inspirational! And I hope I did his challenge justice.
My initial idea was to have some things on a table and see someone walk away in a blurred background. The objects were to tell the story of why the person was walking away.
I then thought of the objects in the current picture and dropped the walking away bit but stuck with the short DoF (my thing for the last couple of months).
I shot the picture in the living room with fading window light and some room lights so at higher ISO than I probably would have if I would have used a strobist set-up. But the picture was going to look somewhat rough in my mind, it was not going to be based on idealised lighting, some post processing was needed to make it even more moody.
I may make some more versions of this theme... the challenge was an inspiration.
Thanks Harry!

Like the Vulpecula, the Dearjohn can be built mostly from parts from Sebulba's Podracer and the Mini Skyflyer, but it needs a little more (a second 2x3 plate, for example).

This is from my first roll through this GS645W. At first glance it looks like the twin of my GS645S rangefinder, but it is not an exact twin. The 45mm lens is wider angle of 45mm (28mm equivalent) than the 60mm (40mm equivalent) on the GS645S, and is one stop slower. The biggest difference is this is a scale focus camera, and the GS645S is a rangefinder, and that difference is the biggest issue I am having with it. Even with the 45mm lens, the depth of field is not that great when the focus is not exact. I think on the next roll I will use faster film so my distance guesses are less critical. When the lens is in focus it is very sharp.
I saw this car in the parking lot of Dear John's when I was out for a walk shooting the test roll. The midday light is harsh, but even so the focus is and depth of field up close is not as good as I would desire.
