The kids were excited to put our Christmas tree up. This year India & Brubba did it all by themselves and they did a wonderful job! We loved sharing this special tradition with Aunt Toni. Many of our ornaments hold beautiful memories of the people that gave them to us or the times we bought them. Some were made by Brubba, like the little nutcracker and the reindeer. Our little girl placed the star on top, Mama and Brubba made this star a few years ago. India Rose checked out some classic cars at the Quaker Shake and Lube restaurant, Pinellas Park. Larry's car show presents hot rods and classic cars every Thursday 4-8pm. India and family took a quick walk through The Armature Works in Tampa. This building dates back to 1910. Formerly known as the streetcar barn, it was once the storage and maintenance facility for Tampa's streetcars. Now it houses the The Heights Public Market, a cool indoor market place, with entertainment, bars and restaurants, as well as shops. It is such a cool space, using many of the original warehouse materials. From the exposed brick to the hardwood floors redesigned from the old roof, this is a little piece of Tampa history. There is complimentary WiFi throughout the venue. Free parking throughout the week, with a $5 voucher system at the weekends. India got a bike for Christmas, it was a little big and she had never ridden anything with peddles before. She was unsure of her new bicycle at first. India and Mama were collecting seashells, when they made a new friend... A gopher tortoise! While watching some kids TV, India Rose learns about Holi, or The Festival Of Color. She was so excited to hear them talking about India (the country) We decided that it was a good excuse to do some arts and crafts, we took an empty cereal box and cut out an elephant mask. It was a rainy day in Florida, so Mama had to find a fun activity for India Rose to do indoors. We found these princess stickers at the Dollar Tree for $1 and our toddler loved creating her own Disney masterpieces to stick on her bedroom wall. She used the pens that came with it to make them bright and colorful and was very pleased with her new wall decorations. We took our toddler through the Scary Trail at Honeymoon Island. Honestly, it was quite frightening, filled with zombies and monsters! India Rose wasn't scared though, in fact she offered the undead creatures some candy and complimented them on their outfits 😂😂 She even managed to tame a couple of creatures of the night, with her cuteness! She is such a brave little girl! Perhaps the reason she wasn't scared was because Brubba had the scariest costume of them all. People kept standing next to him and having their picture taken, they thought he was part of the show 😂 If you are easily scared or your child is susceptible to nightmares, I wouldn't recommend this part of the event, but there was plenty of other fun to be had. India Rose visited a fairy tale garden, at The Ulele restaurant in Tampa. The fairyland includes a giant Humpty Dumpty sitting high on a wall, Cinderella and her Fairy godmother, The Three Little Pigs and Jack and his beanstalk. These beautiful figures were once part of the FairyLand at Tampa Zoo, which opened in 1957. More than 20 years ago, FairyLand closed, nut this restaurant's owner saved the figures and now they surround Ulele, in a fantastic display for children to visit. Largo Central Park is decorated for Christmas! More than 2 million LED lights twinkle throughout the park, making this the best display of holiday cheer in Pinellas County. India loves to visit this event each year, it is one of our favorite December traditions. The Ferris wheel and carousel are $5 each but strolling through the park is free. The sun had been shining all morning, when Mama and India took a walk to their favorite coffee shop. Those storm clouds roll in quick here in Florida and when it rains... It RAINS! This week we celebrate National Fossil Day! So our family spent an evening on Blind Pass Beach, Sarasota County, searching for shark tooth fossils. It's such a pretty area and the sunset was gorgeous. India and Brubba found lots of beautiful shells and a few small shark teeth. The beaches in and around Venice, Florida, are known as the shark tooth capital of the world. 10 million years ago, Florida was under water and this part of the ocean was filled with so many prehistoric sharks. The water receded and the sharks died, leaving a huge cache of fossilized teeth behind! Sharks can produce up to 30,000 teeth in their lifetime and the conditions are just right for them to wash up in this part of Florida. Most of the teeth you find along the beach are quite small, for the larger teeth you must venture out into the ocean and use diving equipment. We were very happy with our little collection of teeth, it was a cool way for India to learn about fossils and even take home a souvenir. Thank you for watching Dear India Rose. It wasn't too long ago that our little girl was scared to climb or go down the slide by herself, but she is so brave now! I found some throwback footage of India, at about 15 months,. Our tiny princess had just learned to walk and was enjoying a sunset walk at the nature park. This Thai Buddhist temple on the bank of the Palm River in Tampa, Florida is the most peaceful, serene place. India loved exploring the grounds and even meditated on the steps of the temple. Built in 1981, it is home to the monks who eat, sleep and meditate here. The grounds are filled with beautiful flowers and shade trees, as well as a fire breathing dragon! There is a Thai market that sells fruit and veg, a summer school and meditation workshops. The grounds were so quite, all you could hear were the birds. It was easy to forget that you are in the middle of a city. The Hillsborough County Fair, outside of Tampa was an awesome evening of fun for our whole family! India has been looking forward to this all year. She particularly loves the Ferris Wheel (dad not so much 😂) and the carousel but she really wants to ride the big carnival rides with Brubba... Maybe next year! Our fairground adventure wasn't too expensive, as Thursdays is Dollar Day, $1 to get in and $1 per ride. India loved the vintage market in St Pete! So many treasures and curiosities, all under one roof. Open on the first Saturday & Sunday of each month, Brocante Market has 15,000 square feet of antique, vintage and retro items for sale. From furniture to clothes, art to toys, everything is a step back in time. This wonderful place had India mesmerized. Happy Diwali to our friends around the world! After watching some YouTube videos about The Festival Of Lights, India was asking if she could go to India to see the celebrations. We tried to find a local festival but they were all too far away or not open to the public. So, Daddy surprised India with her own festival in the back yard. He decorated the trees with fairy lights and bought some sparklers. Our family had such a wonderful evening, eating candy and dancing. Brubba gave India some beautiful bead necklaces, which she shared with us all, she even made her own version of Rangoli from her beads. Our kids loved learning about this Indian tradition. Growing up in London, I was lucky enough to enjoy some amazing Diwali celebrations, teaching our children to embrace other cultures is important to us, their lives will be richer for learning about the world and all it's beautiful people! Our family spent the evening at Tampa Museum of Art. It was India's first visit to an art gallery. We didn't know how our toddler would cope with rules such as 'No running' and "no touching" but she did great! She really enjoyed looking at the modern and contemporary pieces but, surprisingly, it was the classical exhibition that she loved the most! The ancient Greek and Roman pots and sculptures were fascinating to our 3 year old. This museum, located on the banks of the Hillsborough river in Downtown Tampa, was the perfect size for our little one. We spent about an hour walking around the exhibits, learning about the history behind this art. Yesterday was National Pie Day! India celebrated by heading to one of our favorite restaurants, Village Inn. Every Wednesday they offer a free slice of pie after your meal! After eating blueberry pancakes and trying bacon for the first time, our little one took home a delicious slice of pumpkin and pecan pie. Happy Pie day! India Rose went to the Sunset Festival at Pier 60, Clearwater Beach. This beach was voted America's best by TripAdvisor this year, it's not hard to see why. The Sunset Festival is every night, year round (depending on weather) and includes street performers, musicians, arts and crafts stalls and, of course, the beautiful Florida sunset. We particularly enjoy The Flaming Ginger, a fire-eating juggler that rides a unicycle! There is plenty to do and see, whether you are a local like us or you are here on vacation. This is a favorite spot for the tourists, so it can get quite busy at this time of the season. On the weekend, an outdoor cinema screen is set up to play free movies. When your favorite movie is Frozen but you have lived in Florida your whole life, a white Christmas is a just distant dream! India has wished to see snow for as long as she can remember. We make sand angels on the beach and build sandmen instead of snowmen but she will will never see a white Christmas in Central Florida. When we heard that the Sundial Shopping Center in St Pete had a snow machine, we drove for an hour (and spent almost as long looking for somewhere to park) so that her Christmas wish could be granted... And it was totally worth it!!! The best thing about being a parent is being able to make your little one's dreams come true. TBT - This cute little video was filmed back in April, when India had just turned 3 years old. Our toddler was eating a sandwich in the backyard when she was joined by some squirrel friends, she quickly shared her food with them and asked if they wanted a hug. These squirrels visit us every day, because they know that India Rose loves the local wildlife and will always feed them tasty treats! She really wishes they would come inside and be her pets, but Mama and Daddy explain that these are wild animals, that love to be free. I love the friendship she has formed with these adorable critters, how they trust her enough to come close. Our little girl is a real nature lover! Mama & Daddy took India Rose to see some pretty pink flamingos! Despite living in Florida, India has never seen a flamingo before. We found this flock at the Sunken Gardens in St Petersburg (the rest of our trip to the Gardens will be up in tomorrow's vlog) These birds were so beautiful, India just loved how pink they were. We bought annual passes to MOSI - Museum of Science and Industry. This was India's first time at a science museum and she loved it! With so many interactive exhibits, our 4 year old had a lot of fun learning and playing and our 16 year old enjoyed it just as much. Mosi is a great day out, they have new exhibits every month, so there is always something new to learn about when you visit.
