Hmmm what to write?

Its not so much a lack of material but more a lack of direction... so I'll go with whatever comes to mind as it does.

I've wanted to go to Japan (and particularly during the Cherry Blossoms Festival) since I was in Gr 6 and did a project on the country (during the Nagano Olympics-1998--isn't it cool how memory works?) A friend of mine was actually going to go this year. We had even discussed going together... That, of course, was before I got accepted to school and started making new plans for myself. Those plans basically included putting some things I wanted to do on hold but more importantly planning new things... New adventures. His plans have also had to go on hold, pending Japan's recovery from the tragic natural disasters of last month.

A year ago last weekend was the first time I went to NY to check out my current school's campus. I wasn't necessarily enthused about living in NY like most people get because I already loved the city I was coming from. A year ago, I had no idea what I was going to be doing in a year... if I'd belong... and if I'd be able to find people like those I'd be leaving behind. Last week, with a new group of friends (new relative to the lifelong relationships I have with some) I went to Washington for the first time... and in particular to see the cherry blossoms. Life's rather kind like that. Giving if you're open to it.

These past few weeks have been rather exciting. I've confirmed a placement for 6 months in Johannesburg improving the standards of care of their health system. School is going swimmingly and I'm still running (although chickening out on my marathon goal-may just run half). More importantly (and obviously this is subjective as most people probably won't think this to be the most important thing but my priorities include FUN high up on the list) I started bouldering. I love it! (I've climbed indoors for a few years, but nothing this consistent, nor technical nor challenging... like I said, I love it!). Now I have to start getting used to the idea of leaving this new home I've made for yet another one. But what's so incredible about this entire journey is that while I was afraid I'd be forgotten by those I left, I sometimes feel more connected b/c we work harder to make time for each other despite the distance.

So, this goes out to my friends, to cherry blossoms, and promises that while delayed, are bound to come true in some form or another... I pinky swear!
