This video shows a DCC fitted Lego train powered from a continuously variable DC power supply. The applied motor voltage is measured as a function of applied track voltage. Skip to the end of the video for the graph showing motor voltage vs. track voltage as well as a graph of the current consumption of the decoder at various track voltages.

The conclusion is that you could very easily control a DCC fitted Lego train if you have a continuously variable DC supply available. This same supply can also power unmodified Lego 9V trains as well; as long as you are careful not to exceed 9V to the track. The motor can tolerate voltages above 9V, but not for too long as the power dissipation begins to generate too much heat. Besides, beyond 9V, that train won't remain on the track too long anyway! ;)

Similar type of experiment using Lego's 9V regulator...

weekend 3 of problem solving with this.

We have now totally elliminated any motor surging :) Vid shows full power on DCC (which is currently set a little too fast) with one engine under load. Its capable of pulling these at extremely slow speed (speed setting 1 on DCC) with no suging now what so ever, so I'm extremely happy :)

Next step is to fine tune the engine sounds to the physical speed.

This graph simply shows the applied motor voltage vs. applied track voltage on a DCC decoder powered by a DC power supply. The key points here are:

1) Decoder "wakes up" at around +5V

2) Decoder starts to apply voltage to the motor at around +7.5V

3) Voltage increases linearly with applied track voltage up to motor maximum voltage

4) The starting voltage applied to the motor at +7.5V is programmable with configuration variable (CV) 63

5) The maximum voltage applied to motor is programmable with CV 64

DENVER COMIC CON and Literary Conference (DCC) is a three-day family friendly, pop culture fan convention.

This program of PCC features the best in comics along with popular sci-fi and fantasy tv shows, movies, Japanese animation, cosplay (fan-created costumes and costumed skits), toys, gaming, and panel presentations.

The proceeds from this annual, education-centered, family-friendly, pop culture fan event benefits PCC’s overall educational endeavors.

More than 50 images in the sequence of which I kept 28 and show the best 9 here. The biggest issue of the PF500/TC-14EIII combo is focus consistency - about half the images were OOF because the D500 lost track. I did not lift the thumb off the back-button focus (actually the joy-stick programmed for GRP AF mode); the D500 managed to re-acquire focus several times (and losing it again). I have no doubt that without the TC-14EIII, those AF issues would vanish.

I have tried both my old TC-14E and the newly acquired TC-14EIII. Both gave me substantial trouble during AF fine tune (using the dot-method) and both needed additional adjustment in the field. About two days for each of them. Having issues with the dot method I didn't even try the automatic AF fine tuning that the D500 provides for - with the same lens-align target I would not expect a different outcome. For the TC-14E/500PF combo, the dot-method resulted in +9 that was later changed to +13 in field testing. For the TC-14III/500PF, dot-method resulted in +6, corrected to +8 in the field. The lens itself needed +3.

A few hours earlier I had only just put a basic DCC decoder into this locomotive.

I was invited to spend two days at Europe’s most comprehensive IoT Event. This leading forum focused on case studies that show today’s Industry and Enterprises leveraging IoT technologies to transform their business through creating value and efficiencies.

The Internet of things (stylised Internet of Things or IoT) is the internetworking of physical devices, vehicles (also referred to as "connected devices" and "smart devices"), buildings and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity that enable these objects to collect and exchange data.

"Things," in the IoT sense, can refer to a wide variety of devices such as heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals, electric clams in coastal waters,[16] automobiles with built-in sensors, DNA analysis devices for environmental/food/pathogen monitoring or field operation devices that assist firefighters in search and rescue operations.[18] Legal scholars suggest to look at "Things" as an "inextricable mixture of hardware, software, data and service". These devices collect useful data with the help of various existing technologies and then autonomously flow the data between other devices. Current market examples include home automation (also known as smart home devices) such as the control and automation of lighting, heating (like smart thermostat), ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and appliances such as washer/dryers, robotic vacuums, air purifiers, ovens or refrigerators/freezers that use Wi-Fi for remote monitoring.
