I took this at the Iwo Jima memorial. I used the sky as a backdrop and wanted it to look like a shadow.

WASHINGTON, DC (July 3, 2017)--Performers, support staff and attendees gather on the Capitol grounds for dress rehearsal of the annual "A Capitol Fourth" concert July 3, 2017.

“A Capitol Fourth” is a free annual concert performed on the west lawn of the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., in celebration of Independence Day each July 4. Broadcast live on PBS, NPR and the American Forces Network and presented by WETA, the concert is viewed and heard by millions across the United States and the world, as well as attended by more than half a million people at the Capitol. The concert traditionally features elements of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), the United States Army Presidential Salute Guns Battery, the U.S. Army Band (Pershing's Own), the National Symphony Orchestra and the Choral Arts Society of Washington, who provide much of the music during the show for various celebrity artists. A celebrity host and a variety of guests entertain and pay tribute to their country throughout the evening.

The Douglas DC-7 was an advanced development in large piston-engine airliners. American Airlines introduced the aircraft on its New York to Los Angeles route on November 29, 1953. It was the first airliner to provide nonstop transcontinental service both east-to-west and west-to-east.

The DC-7 cruised at 580 kilometers (360 miles) per hour and was the fastest transport aircraft in service. As a result, 338 DC-7s were purchased by 18 different airlines. Piston-engine airliners were made obsolete by turbine-engine Boeing 707s and Douglas DC-8s. Some DC-7s were later used as cargo planes and for charter work.

This nose section is from the American Airlines flagship Vermont, which carried about 130,000 passengers in its nearly 13,500 hours aloft.

On the second day of our trip, we got up really early to catch Cathay Pacific as well as a few other heavies. Here is one of them: DHL DC-8 landing on runway 5.

I really like DC. He's a bit younger than me, and speaks his mind. I still love that "I'm going to kick 3 colours of $#!7 out of Massa" comment.

AeroLyon was formed in 1996 by the French travel company Nouvelles Frontieres, with the intention of operating charter flights from France to French overseas possessions in the Caribbean, along with charters as needed during European holiday season. It acquired three DC-10s to fly these routes directly from both Paris and other French cities, including its namesake Lyon.

When Nouvelles Frontieres was acquired by the German travel company TUI AG, the new company saw little reason to maintain the airline when its competitor, Corsair, was larger and more profitable; TUI AG also owned Corsair. Combined with the post-9/11 airline downturn, AeroLyon ceased operations in 2002.

AeroLyon is represented in the Poletto Collection by a McDonnell Douglas DC-10, the sole operating type of the airline. The real F-BDAA was originally ordered by UTA in 1977, and flew with UTA and AOM until it was acquired by AeroLyon in 1997. AeroLyon would be the final stop for F-BDAA, which was retired with the demise of the airline in 2002, and scrapped in 2005.
