The Mad River, bottom right, joins the Great Miami River as it flows toward the Ohio River. Beautiful morning walk but not one Great Blue Heron. Had fun carrying a little Olympus e-m1 with the 25mm prime lens.

Built between 1909 and 1929, this Renaissance Revival-style church replaced the earlier Gothic Revival-style St. Francis Catholic Church, founded in 1853 and built in 1866 at the corner of Benham Street and Third Avenue, that had been heavily damaged by flooding in the late 19th Century and early 20th Century, finally being condemned after the flood of 1913. The present church was dedicated in 1914, though it lacked the impressive tower and front facade, instead featuring a more modest and spartan Mission Revival-style facade until the parish finances were in order to undertake its construction, with the front facade being constructed in 1929. The church was completed with the installation of the final stained glass windows and interior decoration in 1932. The church features a buff brick exterior, limestone trim, a cross-gable roof, latin cross layout, semi-circular rear apse, arched stained glass windows, a rusticated stone base, brick corbels and pilasters, a front wing with a tower topped with a copper dome, a rose window above the front entrance, limestone surround at the front entrance with doric pilasters, brick reveals at the base of the brick walls on either side of the front entrance on the front facade, a cylindrical domed cupola over the crossing, and a large front staircase up to the front entrance. The church serves the predominately working-class Catholic population of the city of Dayton, Kentucky, and continues to be a major landmark at the heart of the community.

Built in 1905, this Queen Anne-style house features a red brick exterior, a rough-hewn stone base, an arched basement window on the front facade, front gable, a hipped roof, scalloped shingle-clad gable ends, arched windows on the second floor, one-over-one double-hung windows, a two-story bay window on the side facade, brick quoins, a front porch with ionic columns on stone piers, a gabled roof, and arched openings, and a wooden projected front vestibule. The house is a contributing structure in the Steele’s Hill-Grafton Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, and increased to its present size in 2023.

Somehow I had missed posting many photos from our time walking Open Doors Minneapolis. It was an awesome way to explore and learn more about the city that was once known as the world's foremost producer of flour. Dayton's was a major department store back in its day, where its continuing legacy now living on via Target stores.

More about the renovation resides below:

"The newly restored 1.2 million square-foot building reimagines the historic and beloved department store as a mix between retail and office, offering a touchpoint in the heart of Minneapolis for community and a hub for business."

Enjoy!
