Our Daily Challenge - In The Mood . . . . . . for a redo

Happy Sliding :)

Very first one here flic.kr/p/dKpvVk

Today (2-13-22) will be Day 48 that our Yellow-throated warbler has been in our North Georgia yard! There are no others north or northwest of us posted on ebird - and he should be sunning down on the Gulf coast or Central America (even those on the GA coast/coastal plain are reported as Rare). I am grateful to the Lord for this friendly Winter surprise.

Subspecies: there are 2 subspecies - Giff commented early on that he looked like Setophaga dominica albilora - because of his mostly white lores.

I dedicate today's image to John, who was laid to rest today. His gift in life was sharing his knowledge and passion, and one of those passions was photography. He helped me to calibrate my printer and screen and advised me on prints and mounts when I first started out in photography. He was kind and considerate to everyone. RIP John

Day48/365: 2015

For the weekly theme - reflections

I saw the reflection of this tree in a very muddy puddle, the bokeh is from the sun shining on the mud around the puddle.

Grey cold day popped out to get some lunch and what a fine moment in the day it was.

(48.365) Decided that instead of going to bed this morning I would force myself to stay awake and head to one of the local parks to see what I could find for my daily photo. Was happy to find these picnic tables and these leaves. Though I also noticed you get some strange looks when it's cold and foggy out, and it's 8am, and you're wandering around taking pictures of leaves on tables while only wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Such is life.

Project 365 (2009) - Day 48

Ok, so this must be the worst photo ever. Taken from the office window tonight looking towards the silhouette of Fettes College. The sky looked lovely but sadly with all the reflections from the windows and the poor quality of the Optio S7 in these conditions, this was all I managed.

Its been a crap and incredibly stressful day at work. Probably the worst in years, and more crap to come tomorrow. Oh joy.

February 17th. Diptych week. So I went with double cuteness. Very pleased to have this lot in the fields round us at the moment. Spring is so here! Do I get a prize for the first lamb photos?

My grandmother's old Singer sewing machine, it made it's appearance in last years 365 project too.

Ruger and I took our morning walk through the woods, today. As we came to this spot a scent of something caught his nose and he had to investigate.

Topped with pecan smoked bacon, pepper jack cheese, grilled jalapenos. fried onion and house made yum yum sauce

Day 48 - possessed...

... I got the shot that I was looking for (and even a bit more). Yeah!

I wanted to take this picture for a week now and knew pretty much what I wanted the shot to look like. I wanted a field, sunset in the background and me standing with outstretched arms in the middle. So I went location scouting and found this place I really liked. Went back there the next day, the light was good, the clouds were great, I packed just the stuff I needed (remember, I had the shot in my head), drove there, started setting up and doing some test shots... realized I didn't bring a CF-Card. Went out the next day again, waited over an hour for the right light and when the sun was down enough to get the shot, the clouds were gone. I guess third time is the charm... you see the result above. The jumping part wasn't planned, but while shooting, I thought I try it and had a winner right on the first take the camera triggered while I was in the air. The other exposures coming afterwards were ok, but not as good as this one.

The setup for this shoot was pretty simple, I wanted to illuminate most of the field in front of me, but keep everything else pretty much in the dark. To get the right exposure capturing the sunset and still got enough light on me shooting into an umbrella, I had to use two speedlights at once at full power to get enough light out of them. I triggered the camera via Pocketwizards Plus IIs with the timer set to 10 seconds. So I could start the countdown, get ready and lift of during the exposure. Unfortunatly that meant, that the flash was always going of twice - when I started the countdown and when the camera triggered. Anybody an idea how to set up the PWs to trigger only once?

... und für die Happy Shooting Leute noch einmal ein kleiner Anhang: Mein Beitrag zur Geist Aufgabe. Besessen von einem Geist und auf dem Weg zurück...

In the latter half of the 18th century citizens of this continent rose up in armed revolt because they were unhappy with their government, specifically being oppressed by said government without any recourse. It wasn't that these citizens thought this was the best method for changing government; it was their only method for changing government.

Following the successful conclusion of the revolt, each of the former colonies sent representatives to the First Continental Congress to create a new government, a loose confederation with a weak, centralized government and strong state governments. It didn't take long to realize that this arrangement was not working, so the states sent representatives to Philadelphia for the Second Continental Congress to attempt to make necessary changes to improve the government. What came of this was something completely unintended.

In 1787, members of this Congress voted to accept a new form of government, with strong, federal powers and a unique method for the people to select the head of this government. What they did was truly amazing because they realized that if the citizens of a country are unhappy with the current government, the best way of changing that government is not in armed revolt, but in the ballot booth.

Today, I did my part.

P.S. I am reminded of a quote from President Bill Clinton delivered in an Oval Office address to the nation on September 15,1994, following the first successful democratic election in Haiti's history. "[W]hen you start a democracy, the most important election is the second election." It refers to the fact that a democracy isn't a democracy until it is proven that there can be a successful, and peaceful, transition from one leader to the next. We don't get many things right in this country, but this we do, and have done 42 times in our past. Go us!

Day 48 of 365 (Year Three)

Week 109 Assignment 1 for Take A Class With Dave and Dave.

Old Time Photo - Create an image that looks like it came from the early days of photography. No real specific requirements, but I'm thinking we shouldn't be seeing a lot of bright color here. Get creative...make us think you found a photo from 100 years ago (but, ya know, don't actually use a photo from 100 years ago).

A trip to Yorkshire today for my nephew's christening. The church where the service was taking part was the one directly behind the cottage where I spent my formative years (between the ages of 11 and 19 - after which I went to Uni and my folks sold up and moved to Huddersfield (briefly) ). I was hoping to get a really good shot with the cottage, but because the christening was so well attended there were people everywhere and we were in a rush to get to the post-christening bash in Wakefield. Plus the current owner was hanging out of the front door - which put me off...

So with the help of my dad (who held the camera), and Heather (who held the flash) I quickly fired off this one shot (using the remote). You can only see about 1/3 of the cottage, but never mind... Maybe I'll get another chance sometime down the line.

A little information about the cottage: it's a grade 2 listed building and the original timber structure dates back roughly to the 16th century. The beamed ceilings in the dining room bottom out at 5'7" - which is one of the reasons I spent most of my teenage years hunched over (no one else in my family is taller than 5'7" - I'm a smidgeon over 6')... Oh and it's haunted, of course.

lighting: 580EXII (1/2 power) held to the camera right and pointed in my approximate direction.

Thanks to my two assistants for this shot ;-) Had quite a fun day really. Met up with a lot of family members I haven't seen in years - in fact some of them had kids who were almost as old as *they* were the last time I saw them!

It's really...uh..SHARP. Don't you think?

You know - black is this year's pink!

You deserve each other

This hat and you.

You're both so smart

You deserve each other

So here, out of the goodness of my heart.....

For threesixtyfive - Dress Up

We spent three days in Venice, Italy and we were fascinated by the magic and the beauty of this town. As a special highlight we could witness the culmination of the venetian carnival, the Fat Tuesday. Many wonderful dressed up people, an Eldorado for photographers!

the weather today in Bristol has been lovely and typically for such a nice day I had to work!

Luckily I finished at 3.30pm and made it home with enough time to give my car a quick wash before heading out to the Three Brooks Nature Reserve to watch the sunset over Bradley Stoke.

The Nature Reserve is a lovely tranquil spot in the middle of the sprawling housing estate that is Bradley Stoke (I think it is still the biggest housing development in Europe).

I don't go here enough considering it only takes 10 minutes to walk here. Expect future uploads.....

Yesterday was movie theme day over at Whiskerino, and I picked a scene from one of my all time favorite comedies.

Looking up in the alder grove, Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park.

The second reflecting boat photo in 2 days, couldn't resist the sunset today though! 4 second exposure.

A newly arrived Harris Hawk perched in an olive tree in my garden. This Hawk was captured by my Aide Heather using a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

There's a mesquite tree in the background whose leaves are visible at the lower right.

The theme for Day 48 of 365 was to shoot something uninspiring. Personally, I don't find push pins very inspiring, well, that is until I photographed them.

Why am I working so late...

Today I had the pleasure of shooting a commitment ceremony for Jenn & Georgia. The day was absolutely beautiful and they really are two amazing people who deserve nothing but a lifetime of happiness together.

I had a weeklong birthday celebration. It started here at the Griffith Observatory on the eve of my birthday with my wonderful flickr friends then they took me out for dinner. The day itself was spent with hubby and family drinking mimosas and eating cake the whole day haha. Then my friends from work were really nice taking time and taking turns to take me out for lunch, happy hour or dinner. It was great! I’m seriously sleeping in this weekend :)

Have a fabulous weekend dear friends! :)
