I was painting the back of the house and so, since I was "suited-up" thought this would make an OK shot for today's 365 . . .
. . . This shot was actually a mistake - I set the timer for 2 secs instead of 10 & I wasn't quite ready
wicked cool that is. The Great Moscow State Circus is back in Greenock this week, camped in Battery Park

As i said, this is not as easy as it looks. You need: a very dark environment or a black background, a light source that can be directed to shine through the smoke but not on the background, a way to focus your camera on something that moves pretty fast.
My recommendation, just play around with it, after all, if you're not having fun, why do it?
What did i do? I had a black roll of wrapping paper stuck to a window. I placed a lit cigarette in a small bowl and focused on it. I mounted my 580EXII in my 28" Apollo and set it to 1/2 power on top of a Pixel Tr-332 trigger to the right and just out of frame. I then took a few test shots to get the exposure so that the smoke was well lit and background as dark as i could get it. the rest is just a little photoshop.

The porch in front of Jittery Joe's Roasting Company is enclosed by this welded iron gate and the artist, Beverly Babb, worked a portrait of our friend Vernon into this really cool piece of art. See Lou Kregel's blog for a photo of Vernon posing behind his iron face.
Vernon Thornsberry is an artist and self-taught musician in his own right, who moved here from New Orleans decades ago. He was one of the first people I met when I arrived in 1988, and he always fixed a good cup of coffee at the old Java. These days, he delivers the roasted coffee to businesses around town, to pay the bills.

TOTW got me to thinking... and attempting uncomfortable poses on our wood floors.
oh, pardon my silly slippers. i'm a sucker for handmade knitted slippers, no matter how clunky they look :)
This is the first thing we saw on the outside of the cabin when we arrived.

Gorgeous weather, totally relaxing time. Loving being able to sit and read and eat and lounge. We're in the town at a coffee shop with wi-fi for about 20 minutes so Pete can email illustrations he spent most of the day on (he's trying out this 'working vacation' thing for a lark...kinda sucks).

Kris: "What kind of shoes are you looking for?"
Ginger: "I'm not, you are."
Kris: "But I bought tennis shoes last month."
Ginger: "Then get some dress shoes."

There was one pair of shoes in the whole store in my size (I love wide feet).
I keep flip-flopping on which shot to use for today's 365. i love the simplicity of the other, but i also love how this one turned out. decisions, decisions...
On this rocky and uneven ledge overlooking Bolinas Bay along Highway 1 in California's North Bay.
So often in the last several months in physical therapy, I'd be standing on my left leg and tipping over, and my doctor would emphatically and jokingly ask, "What's wrong with your balance?!" I would respond with, "What's wrong with your face?!" No, not really. I should have. Anyway, I wanted to attribute my inability to balance on my left leg to the lack of neuromuscular feedback in my knee where my ACL used to be, now replaced with a graft that does not get innervated, but in reality, I think the poor balance had more to do with my atrophied and retarded leg muscles.
It's been almost six months (October 4th), and I've been discharged. My physical therapist said I'm "high functioning." High functioning gimp. Things are still not quite right in there, but for the most part, I can do the usual things, like walk up and down six flights of stairs, bike, jog, hike...I have yet to try to play racquetball though. Or frivolously jump. There is still an obvious disparity between my two legs, the right (uninjured) one being grossly more thunderous. Maybe my being "high functioning" has more to do with my right leg picking up the slack....even when I try to make it not do that...it's got a mind of its own.
Not right in the left: cutaneous insensitivity, patellar tendon pain, patellofemoral pain, discomfort and pain in those divots in my patella and tibia, perpetually bruised, it feels funny and there is more resistance inside my knee, it also feels like there's a thing stuck to the front of my knee where my patellar tendon is, it unknowingly limps on occasion. I wonder how long these deficiencies will persist. Forever? It'll never be the same, I've been told.

On the night my beautiful wife and I celebrate our third year of marital bliss, we flog the shit out of German sportwagens. Lord, thank you for this woman and all the happiness she brings to my life.
18:25 enjoying the lovely weather (check out the sunlight in the hair, baby!) I found myself at Tucker Park to do my reading/homework/Bible-study for the day... I find I can focus better, and really get the most out of the God time, outside my home!
I love how, no matter what I seem to be reading (regimented or not) God has something very timely to be speaking to me! He is so alive and at work in my life... love it!

I drove through Maryborough, which is a somewhat quaint old, small country town. There was a time, back in the day, when Maryborough was considered as a likely capital for Queensland - until they decided Brisbane was better suited.
I took this because it reminds me of those town halls you see on movie lots - like something that is supposed to look like a town hall but isn't quite right.

I missed two days in my 365 because I had lost my charger and couldn' t be arsed looking for it properly. Now I' m really pissed off with myself, I want to be committed to this project and I think I am, but sometimes days just go by....
I took pics with my cellphone but have no idea how to get them on my computer. Tried through FB mobile add but couldn' t figure that out. Shite.
At least the football has been great and very exciting!

We went bowling today, it was completely awesome. I haven't been bowling in forever so I was a bit rough but after awhile it was great fun.
