Allí estaba. Sola. Firme. En el medio de las vías.

Desnuda sobre las rocas. Haciéndole frente a todo. Valiente como ninguna.

There she was. Alone. Firm. In the middle of the rails.

Naked on the rocks. Coping with everything. Brave.

Ahh, summer is really leaving us :( and I can tell not only by the weather (okay so I am still walking around in singlets and short shorts but its not as comfortable to do so anymore and I've started needing to bring a light jacket with me wherever I go! :-S) but also by the limited amount of sunlight left in my afternoons :( I'm going to miss my naturally lit photos...

I've started playing around with tones in photoshop, this is my first attempt using a new (to me) method and I think I like the effect it had...

Not much more to say really... still playing the catch-up game :)

My gorgeous friend Denise was recently posting copious amounts of photos to her tumblr of beautiful woman covering their faces, mostly with their hands. She got me.

(Beautiful women smoking too, but I am about to celebrate 4 years since I quit so I'll try to resist)

This is for her.

Week 15 theme: Contronym 7 April- 13 April

"Buckle" can mean "fasten securely" as in "buckle your seat belt", or it can mean "fall apart" as in "buckle under pressure" or "Buckling knees"

115 pics in 2015 - Six or eight legs (artistic licence here!)

Milo (our Great Dane) and my dads dog, who is 12, playing in the water, its the only time Milo will get wet - he is such a woose:)

I must admit I do struggle with the Fuji XT-1 for action type shots, I had this on a fairly high ISO with a wide aperture and a fast shutter speed, but with the wide aperture you have to be so much more accurate in your focussing. I did have it on burst mode and the focus was set to keep focussing on moving objects. Its ok, but I think it could be better.

Yay, day 101 :)

Oh my gosh!!!

I like this rotated, don't know why... And I know it's over-edited... Grrr... Oh well.

4DAYS.TIL.YC!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna buy a blue tutu, a tiara, and rainbow colored nail polish there :)

Positive Work for the day:

Be forgiving of others and yourself.

For the 'Contronym' weekly theme in the 365 2013 Edition group.

The word 'Screen' is a contronym as it has two different opposite meanings - to Show (in this case a film on a tv) and to Hide.

Showing on the television is (half of) a scene from one of my favourite films, the classic 'Blade Runner' directed by Ridley Scott.

Billie has had a bit of a limp for a few days so last night, while I

read in bed, she got a bit of a doggie massage on her foot/leg. Yum-

And a smartphone with an open source OS. And an envious wife.

We went for a walk around the two closest towns to our home today as we wanted to become a bit more familiar with the area. When we got back I had a mad dash around the house cleaning, as we have visitors coming over for lunch tomorrow. I wondered around outside for some inspiration after finishing, the colours and texture here appealed....my theme of the day appears to be weathered items or to be more precise, rust.

I took the time to get out of the house today and hike around a local park. It was great to get out again and enjoy nature. There was a nice thick blanket of fog that moved in, along with a sprinkling of mist/rain... so there was a lot of mood and lots of really nice saturation in the oranges, yellows, and reds of Autumn's remnants.

While I had a number of images that I was really happy with, I decided to go with this one because I probably worked the hardest for it. As I was walking toward my car to head home, I really liked how this area looked in the fading-light, with the dreariness, and the wet, rough surface. So on a whim I decided to quickly throw together a straight-up self-portrait (seeing as how I didn't really have anything fun/cool to do). I did a lot of running back and forth between shots, so along with all the walking I did prior to this I ended-up getting some really good excercise. I did end up with one casualty from this shot though... a gust of wind tipped over my lightstand and damaged my flash and my reciever... making it the second flash, and second radio device (transmitter/receiver) I've broken in about a month. I did have the lightstand weighted down, so I'm not necessarily kicking myself for being stupid... it just reminds me that I need to be even more careful than I was.

Living History Farms is a historically accurate farm here in Des Moines. It has three farms which depict life on a farm in 1700, 1850, and 1900. In addition to the farms, there is a small town replica and this church.

This is a three exposure HDR.

So very much better on black and large. Clickety on it or press the 'l for lovely' key to see.

April 2, 2007

Alright so get this. Last night around 9:00, me and Jon were in my dorm, relaxing, watching Pirates on USA (my fav. movie ever) when all of a sudden, the fire alarm in our building goes off. We have fire drills occasionally, and they are ALWAYS at night, so I was hesitant to even move off my bed because I figured it was just a drill, no biggie. That was until I actually smelled smoke. I am in my friggin monkey pajamas with a short little t-shirt on, ready to fall asleep, and now I realize i have to go outside. I grabbed a sweatshirt and sandals really fast. Jon is in a big muscle shirt and shorts.

We go outside and it's pretty chilly. I felt bad for Jon. Everyone in our dorm and the dorm next to us is standing outside the building, bitchin and yelling. 3 fire trucks pull up. I'm trying to figure out what happened because there was smoke and stuff. Aparently, a light cought on fire in the stairwell. Ok, so that was all we knew at that point.

Finally the smoke alarm stops. A public safety officer comes outside and says " It seems that the light caught on fire was done intentionally, so whoever did this needs to step forward now." Ok, whoever started it is NOT going to walk up to this officer in front of EVERYONE and say "It was me!" So we continued to stand there, and at this point people are getting pissed. Sunday nights are CRUCIAL in college life- especially now when all the professors are giving out tests before break. We always use sundays to study!

After about a half hour, the RD came and told everyone in Manor South (my dorm) and Manor west to go to the alumni hall. At this point, I'm pissed. Not only did I want to go to bed, I felt like I was a little kid again and someone threw something in the lunchroom and we were all being punished because no one fessed up to it.

After about an HOUR in this hall, getting lectured, bitched at, and asked who did it about a million times, we were allowed to leave, but if you lived in manor south you had to wait outside for the firemen to clean up the mess in the stairwell. It turns out the fire was like dripping from this light, but it wasn't huge or anything. They did not need 3 fire trucks for this

After about 2 hours, we finally got back in our dorm (which smelled horribly of burnt plastic). It was about 11:15.

Come on York- let's get real. We are a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds living in a college dorm on a sunday night. Don't make us wait 2 hours for someone else's dumbass mistake. We would appreciate it if we were treated as college students, not middle schoolers

365@55...day 101...Baba Yaga's woods (aka, my backyard)...

and you can't tell from the picture, but i had braces then. cuuuuute. not.

currently listening: signed, sealed, delivered - stevie wonder

I bought these daffodils from work earlier this week. They are a little bit more expensive than the standard trumpet shaped ones but they look that bit more erm..... special

It's been a busy day at work battling through my manflu and not a lot of time to prepare a decent shot.

Time now for a beer and slobbing in front of the tv!

I was so touched to get a birthday card signed by everyone in my group.

Day 101/365

I found this little flower and I think it's meant as a gift tag, but it caught my eye because all of the words inscribed on the petals have been used to describe me by people I love and admire.

And it seemed almost to jump at me, in my fever-addled haze this week, that maybe it's time I actually believed that sometimes other people see me more clearly than I see myself.

We are so quick to believe the negative things that people say throughout our lives, to believe the one mean kid that called us ugly, or stupid. But at the same time we constantly and consistently dismiss when people tell us that we are, for lack of a better word: wonderful.

When we start to believe that maybe those lovely voices are actually right... we blossom. I blossom. I'm trying to blossom.

So, instead of hearing over and over and over the one single voice of dissent... I'm trying to hear the myriad of people telling me I am better than I've believed myself to be.

I'm so proud of myself today. My new studio kit (2 lamps and tent :D) came yesterday and I decided to switch our small bedroom (still have big one to sleep in) to little photo studio :D I untwisted the bed and as you can see on the shot it's a shelf now (left the frame only, rest is packed in storage room :P), then packed all the unnecessary stuff and hid them. I've made small table under the tent from boxes and put everything together :D Now I own my little studio :D yay! But yep, laundry is still hanging there (right side of the shot) cause I'm really low on space in all other rooms now lol :D

April 11, 2015: 101/365 (2658/2992)- Saturday I had the honor of heading into the open gulf with my new friend, Jerry McBride of Kayak Fish magazine, and a crew from the Hobie Professional Fishing team to shoot some fishing photos for an upcoming issue (I hope). My first surf launch went well but landing was a lot rougher, my first capsized kayak but that is another story. I had a blast, learned a lot about what I would do differently next time, got sunburned and rained on at the same time, plus lots of fish photos that Kayak Fish gets first publication rights to so you won't see them on here today.
