PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: Hola! Sarita looks ready for a trip to Spain! As a Spanish major, I was often pressured to make such a trek myself (obviously, it was sort of expected of me since I was majoring in the language), but I never honestly had any inclination to leave New England for any amount of time. But perhaps Sarita (we gave her Shelly's Spanish name from when she was in school) is willing to go see the streets Federico Garcia Lorca (my favorite Spanish writer) roamed in his day. Sarita was a very thoughtful gift, part of the "Barbies and Biggies lot" in July 2024. I love how she has the "sad face"--I know collectors call it "sad" because it has no dimples, but I think it's really charming! To me, she looks like she's ready to eat and is sort of smiling. Even though this, to me, is the most iconic face sculpt (because our first CPK doll has it), we don't have that many dolls with it and, currently, she's our only girl with this face! Although without her factory attire she would just be a 1985 Cabbage Patch Kid, with this dress? She's ready to go to Spain and dance! She is really adorable! These travel sets are iconic to me, I always wanted one, and now--we have one! She's so much fun.
This 1/9th scale radio-controlled C-17 model was built in the United Kingdom. To date it has about 20 flights. It was built as the centerpiece of a 15 program television series produced in the U.K. for the Home and Leisure satellite TV channel. Built with the aid of three friends, it took 1 year to build and is powered with 4 Jetcat P-120 turbines with a total thrust of 108 lbs. The models weighs over 250 lbs fuelled, and carries 12.5 liters (3.3 US gallons) of 95% kerosene and 5% turbine oil fuel. Other details include 5 Futaba PCM receivers, 16 battery packs (93 cells), 20 Futaba servos, on board air compressor, electro/pneumatic retracts, etc. The four builders are shown in the lower left image above. Colin Straus is at the nose of the air craft. Wingspan is 20 feet 8 inches, and the top of the fin is 74 inches (6 feet 2 inches) above the ground. Takeoff weight is 264 lbs. The rear cargo doors open and they drop an r/c jeep on a pallet, as well as 2 freefall r/c parachutists. Date Oatmeal Cookies
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water
3.5 cups oatmeal
3 cups flour (may need to add more to roll out)
1 teaspoon vanilla
dash salt
Roll-out to about 1/5 of an inch between layers of waxed paper - Test to see if waxed paper pulls away from cookie dough (if not add more flour)
Cut into 2 inch rounds and bake for 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees
The filling:
1 Cup brown sugar
1 pound chopped dates
3 tablespoons rum
1/2 cup water
Stir while cooking, cook until the mixture losses any large lumps. You may need to add more water.
