Elizabeth Duffy explores the role of pattern in data security and interior decoration. For this installation, Duffy transformed the entire gallery space into a living environment complete with a custom restored horse-drawn carriage. It’s a world immersed in history and ornamentation that points to the Antone Academic Center’s origins as a carriage house.

October 17, 2013 – ALFA hosted 150 executives who work to advance excellence in senior living at the ALFA 2013 Senior Living Executive Forum. The two-day event in Las Vegas, NV offered attendees deep insight into factors shaping senior living.

“The ALFA Forum is an intensive learning and collaborative environment focused on relevant topics related to the senior living business today and in the future,” said Richard P. Grimes, ALFA president and CEO. “The ALFA Forum encourages each of us to exercise our strategic skill sets to raise the bar for excellence in senior living.”

Health policy expert David Merritt of Leavitt Partners opened the program Wednesday by exploring Medicaid, Accountable Care Organizations, the Affordable Care Act, and highlighting their impact on the senior living landscape.

Afternoon discussions between ALFA’s Executive Roundtable Members and ALFA’s President’s Council Members centered on pressing industry topics such as occupancy trends, financial market conditions, data security and federal issues affecting senior living providers.

MIT blackjack legend Jeffrey Ma, who is also the founder and CEO of productivity start-up TenXer, Thursday morning highlighted business lessons learned from blackjack, including confidence, conviction and the ability to manage risk. He stressed the importance of using data to improve effectiveness and dictate decisions.

Following Ma’s presentation, Executive Roundtable members met with their peer groups to solve real-world business challenges facing their discipline within the senior living realm.

A summary report of the ALFA Senior Living Executive Forum is being produced and will become available in November via the ALFA Update e-newsletter. Subscribe to the newsletter online for email updates by going to ALFA’s website at www.alfa.org.

PCI DSS Compliance is a payment card security standard that outlines stringent security requirements for protecting cardholder data. In the outlined 12 PCI Compliance Requirements, one of the Requirement 3.3 states that organizations need to “Mask PAN when displayed such that only personnel with a legitimate business need can see more than the first six/last four digits of the PAN. So, as a matter of best practice organizations adopt masking and truncation techniques for data security.

However, the two techniques are different but often interchangeably used in the payment card industry. So, in the video, we have explained the difference between masking and truncation techniques in PCI DSS. This will help you understand the difference between the two techniques and where and why the two techniques are used in PCI DSS.

Greenpeace has published secret documents from the TiSA negotiations. The “Trade in Services Agreement” is the unknown big brother of the trade agreements TTIP and CETA. TiSA is currently, from 19-26th of September, being secretly negotiated in Geneva among 50 states and would pave the way for global deregulation of everything from public services to financial markets. TiSA would undermine effective climate action and environmental protection, health care and education, labour rights and data security.

Greenpeace demands to start a public debate on trade which is in favour of people and the planet, not just a few big corporations.

Held at Davos on Tuesday, January 21, this lunch discussion explored ethical AI development, governance frameworks, privacy, and security, as well as the evolving crypto regulatory landscape. We’ll also examine how blockchain’s decentralized data structures can create new paradigms for data security, identity verification, and AI model training. By prioritizing responsible AI development, we can ensure these technologies serve the public good and uphold ethical standards.

While GDPR is primarily a data privacy law, it also includes elements of data security. But of course, GDPR is ambiguous so it’s not very prescriptive when it comes to data security requirements for processing personal data. The law requires each organization to evaluate its own data security based risk, processing activities, and its organizational structure. By putting this in the hands of the organization, the organization can determine what’s an appropriate control. organizations are also allowed to consider the ability and resources of an organization to implement a control. Just because a control is a possibility for mitigating risk doesn’t mean that it’s an appropriate control. What’s appropriate for one organization may be too expensive, impractical, or not secure enough for another organization. Appropriate organizational and technical data security controls include risk assessments, encryption, pseudonymization, and documented policies of things like business continuity, physical security, logical access, configuration management, human resources, and management oversight.

There should also be a process to monitor and test the effectiveness of data security controls, which is where internal and third-party auditing comes into play. These will serve as an effective way of demonstrating that thought and objectivity has been considered when it comes to what is appropriate for an organization. There have been unofficial attempts to map GDPR requirements to other information security frameworks, but they may be incomplete with respect to data security and privacy elements.
