Big Data Analytics in the Marine Industry
Big Data Analytics is a process in which a very large group of data is collected, organized, and analyzed so that hidden patterns and useful information can be discovered.
In other words, Big Data Analytics is a process in which large data sets are examined so that the organization can get hidden patterns, market trends, customer preferences, and other useful information.
In today's digital age, competition is fierce in various industries, including the marine industry, and companies are constantly investing in solutions that can help them increase productivity while reducing overall costs. As a result, the demand for advanced solutions such as Big Data Analytics in maritime industry among commercial shippers and other end users is growing at an impressive rate.
Big Data Analytics in maritime industry, big data is used to control onboard sensors and perform predictive analysis to avoid delays and improve efficiency. Advanced decision-making through big data analytics is being actively implemented to avoid and predict additional costs and can be used throughout the life of the ship.

Open Data Icon created by James Burke / Lifesized.net
The Icon has been put in the Public Domain (Creative Commons Zero). It would be great if you could nonetheless credit James Burke for creating it, when you use it, linking to lifesized.net
(this icon was created in 2009 by James Burke as we wanted a generic icon for general use to indicate 'find open data here' to be used on government websites e.g. At the time we were doing the first explorations into open data for the Dutch ministry responsible for open and e-government). The icon later 'travelled' and was used in e.g. the open data hand book. )

COMPARATIVE MESHES - STEPHEN CARTWRIGHT
Comparative Meshes is a sculpture that uses data to create intersecting landscapes. The piece consists of two three-dimensional graphs of data taken from every day of 2013. The blue surface illustrates the average wind speed at Stephen's location, while the green surface displays the average time he spent walking, running and cycling each day. The work was created to look for correlations between his activity and the natural world. The invisible force of the wind has a large impact on how we live our lives, especially if we allow ourselves to break away from the routines and conveniences of modern life and get out into the world.

Yesterday Richard Florida posted a summary of a study saying that 40% of connected pairs of Twitter users are less than 10km apart. In a larger sample of 13,590,092 geotagged replies, I am seeing a somewhat smaller 33% of tweets replying to someone at a distance of less than 10km, and that the closest 40% are less than 16km apart instead. Still, the total frequency of communication within a given radius is pretty clearly proportional to the log of the radius.
