Data from Central Scotland on the iPhone.

This is about 7 weeks of geo-reference data requests/logs. Showing some of the inaccuracies of the data as pretty sure not been to North Queensferry in this time.

Also the Bo'ness data signal is pretty shoddy so most data shows up as being from over the Forth

Step 1. Hover over data items to display detailed information.

As a systems engineer, I am all too familiar with data loss that can occur without back up redundancy for large data storage devices (we call it fault tolerance in the field). I do have an action plan in place (will share in a moment).

I have all my digital images (as well as documents, iTunes audio and video, etc.) stored on 40, 100,160, 180, 500 (all GB portable drives), and a 1TB portable drive (that crashed!), most recently purchased 2TB portable drive (all full except the 2TB drive).

What I do with the data after storing 80GB on the portable drives, is back the data up on DVD-R disks. It does take time to burn 80GB on DVD-R discs, but the peace of mind obtained by that effort is well worth it.

When that 1TB drive crashed - after expressing some initial expletive deleted words, I was calmed by the fact I had all the files backed up on disks.

This image is the backup storage for the recently purchased 2TB portable drive.

The above image is a hill shade generated from high resolution lidar data. Notice that you can pick out elements such as streams and roads in the data.

MicroPack III (MPIII) miniature data loggers are designed to provide accurate data to help optimise food, pharmaceutical and other manufacturing processes, and can be adapted to almost any situation.

In common with all the other groups, the Life Sciences group were tasked with providing real, specific, measurable and practical responses to the question "Which Big Data hardware- and networking-related technical weaknesses or problems prevent you from carrying out your business or keep you up at night?"

T4G and the NBITC presented a day with some of North America’s leading Big Data thinkers, doers, and innovators on January 24th, 2013 in Saint John, New Brunswick.

The theme was how data science is driving economic and technological change, and how the implications are limitless for the private and public sector.

We brought together emerging data science innovators from Atlantic Canada and across North America for a day of open conversation to explore what big data means for our communities, and how it is reshaping business. Check out leadingthinkers.T4G.com for more information
