Some folks have Jesus on the dashboard, but mine has an intricate network of cobwebs that have developed over the last 5 years. In the pic they kinda look like scratches, but they really are cobbies.

The dashboard of the Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT). This is a 1:18 scaled model of it

With dashboards icon I knew exactly what to shoot for, a gauge in an antique car, specifically one that hasn't been taken care of.

This one was pretty easy to visualize because I have been around a decent amount of old cars. I also know how that type of rubber or plastic that dashboard appears to have around it deteriorates.

I wanted it to be cracked and allow for the background to be seen through the cracks. The particular type of rubber I am thinking of always has these wonderfully spaced cracks in it. While not very helpful with a real piece of equipment of any kind it makes for a good ascetic element in this icon.

I added the rust as though water had seeped inside the gauge over time. I also feel it gives the icon a bit more character. The scratches on the cover don't really need an explanation as scratches just seem to come with any smooth surface of a certain age (Look at your ipods)

We rented an economy class car for our trip. Have you ever driven a car that had the dashboard in the middle?

And in case you aren't use to driving in high winds on a mountain during a snow storm, you may want to consider renting a midsize car. The Yaris is as light as a feather.
