Se dice que las libélulas fueron prácticamente deificadas como las almas de los muertos en la cultura nativa americana y anunciadas como sÃmbolos de pureza y transformación, asà como de victoria, poder y prosperidad. Se cuenta que los birmanos nativos lanzaban regularmente libélulas en el agua circundante a sus asentamientos para controlar las poblaciones de mosquitos que causaban la fiebre amarilla.
