An abandoned house near Concord, Georgia.

Photographed in fading light near sunset.

A Dark-eyed Junco perched on our Dwarf Mt. Adams Pine! I took a few photos, and it flew to the seed feeding stations. We had a flock of about 20 feeding this morning. Photo taken in our backyard in Camas, Washington.

Eilean Donan Castle is undoubtedly a Scottish icon and certainly one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Highlands. When you see it for the first time, it's easy to see why so many people flock to its sturdy gates year after year. Strategically located on its own little island, overlooking the Isle of Skye, at the meeting point of three great sea lakes, and surrounded by the majestic splendour of the wooded Kintail Mountains, Eilean Donan's setting is truly breathtaking.

Road leading through forest - monochrome dark blue tinted photograph

Like some people in the south I would like to walk barefoot on the beach in the silence. Every evening, I would like to watch the sun fall into the sea. Here, in the north it is too dark, cold and windy. At the moment the sky is different, it has got a dark yellow colours.

In darkness let me dwell; the ground shall sorrow be,

The roof despair, to bar all cheerful light from me;

The walls of marble black, that moist'ned still shall weep;

My music, hellish jarring sounds, to banish friendly sleep.

Thus, wedded to my woes, and bedded in my tomb,

O let me living die, till death doth come, till death doth come.

My dainties grief shall be, and tears my poisoned wine,

My sighs the air through which my panting heart shall pine,

My robes my mind shall suit exceeding blackest night,

My study shall be tragic thoughts sad fancy to delight,

Pale ghosts and frightful shades shall my acquaintance be:

O thus, my hapless joy, I haste to thee.

One of our local beach gang, hanging out on the rocks.

This beauty stood out from the gang due to it's darker colouring and extended black patches particularly over the upper wings. Hooded Crow hybrids. When there is less grey than normal as with this bird then it is not a pure Hooded Crow. They intergrade fairly commonly with Carrion Crows,

The dark-eyed junco is a species of junco, a group of small, grayish New World sparrows. This bird is common across much of temperate North America and in summer ranges far into the Arctic. It is a very variable species, much like the related fox sparrow, and its systematics are still not completely untangled. Wikipedia

This bush is close to a couple of feeders and the birds love to hide in it's branches.

'Abracadabra'.

A dark crimson hybrid tea-rose.

This one, rather strangely, without the variegation that is characteristic of 'Abracadabra'.

However, upon researching this rose, I discovered that the lack of variegation is not that uncommon.
