I Seriously, wasn't going to go out this night... Had a weeks worth of hell, and I really just wanted to do was get off work and go home. I was tired, I was cranky, it was the first weekend I've had off in a Month...
As soon as I pulled into the driveway @home, I could hear the weather radio going off and my storm capturing sensation came over me. Listening to the bullitins coming over the radio and I Freaked!. The storms were closer than I had thought. NWS just put warnings for Northern Buffalo County for super fast development of strong to potentially super severe, with large hail, and possible Tornadoes.
Photography Chance of a lifetime... Even though someone could cast me as a member of the Walking Dead....I was a trooper and I didn't wimp out! Luckily I had the my camera on the charger... Grabbed all my equipment & I hauled A** North... 20 mins later I found myself in the perfect spot, under the perfect conditions!
Cresting over northern Buffalo County, ready to cross between Pleasanton & Ravenna Nebraska, this cell was rapidly building and already had tornado warning on it. Incredible CG lightning in front of the storm cell was just to good to capture, with lighting firing off every few seconds.

Not been near my camera in weeks (work…work…boring); I was determined to get out and shoot some images despite the weather. Arrived and set up camera, within a minute of this a wave came long and soaks me but head down go for it.
Lesson learnt, come back in the summer.

Storms were to develop early afternoon but the dry line stalled. Late afternoon into mid evening the dry line pushed just to the west of our location.
With unusually humid conditions for this time of year in South Central Nebraska, this produced the perfect conditions for supercells to develop just to the southwest & west of Kearney Nebraska.
Rarely do we get to see the full development from nothing to a full fledged supercell and this one had fast development resulting in some of my best storm photography for 2012

This image of desert plains, far off mountains, and dark clouds in the middle of lighter clouds was captured from a side road in the town of McDermitt Nevada along Highway 95, at the border with the state of Oregon. We had crossed the timeline from Mountain to Pacific Time so the hour was now before noon, rather than an hour later as were our body clocks. The weather had not changed, though, and was still hot and very windy. We stayed in McDermitt long enough to walk around a bit to stretch our legs and take a couple photos. The next slide is of a windsock at nearby McDermitt airport, maybe actually in Oregon, flying horizontally because of the strong winds.
