While Maharashtra is cursed with severe droughts, particularly in the Marathwada region, the western front (Sahayadri belt) gets some of the highest rainfall in the country. What catches one's eye, is the immense no. of barges and small dams that are constructed in this belt to harvest this rain-water and then feed it back during the 9 months of post-monsoon dry climate. This can be clearly seen from an aircraft some 30 minutes before it lands in Mumbai, a root topology of rivers, abruptly blocked by a straight line dam. A model for the water-starved country ?
Incidentally, this dam is one of the perennial sources of water to Mumbai.
We have a lot of rain in 3 months. Time to wake up !!!

Yesterday was a spectacular sunset I was able to watch from my favourite hill . Dark clouds lay over the country like Brexit over the EU.

Early August storm cells are usually non severe and with little to no precip. Though the dry air creates some of the best photographic scenarios you could ask for if you love clouds... especially storms in Nebraska.
I had the afternoon off and was ready for that afternoons chase. Camera in hand, and storms moving into northern Buffalo County from the northwest...I was ready to catch some incredible storm captures.
August has always been my month to capture some of my best pics. This set of captures was just the first of many to come!

Looking towards Belper and Derby, with the Tramway Museum nestled between the autumn foliage. Fuji XT5 and Viltrox 13mm f1.4 … McCurry Kodachrome recipe.
We were invited by one of the Wife's guiding friends to see 'The Ceremony of the Keys' which is basically the locking up of the Tower of London each night. It's a ceremony that's been happening every night/evening for the past 750 years. I took my camera along hoping to get some good photos but as it turns out, photographing the ceremony is strictly prohibited. So I contented myself with getting shots of the setting sun on the Tower of London a bit earlier in the evening instead. The dark clouds overhead really helped as well!
In Greek mythology, Pegasus under orders from Zeus, brought thunder and lightning from Olympus. Later Pegasus was seen as the keeper of wisdom and fame. Gilded statues of Pegasus are mounted on the four corners of the Pont Alexandre III, the most ornate of Paris' bridges. Restraining the rearing Pegasus are the "Fames". In the picture, the Fames of the Left Bank are of Commerce and Industry. (The Right Bank Fames are of Science and Literature).
Pont Alexandre III, a graceful single arch bridge, crosses the Seine River from the Champs-Elysees area of the Right Bank to the Invalides/Eiffel Tower quarter on the Left Bank. The bridge is in the Beaux-Arts style (Neo-Classical) and is adorned with Art Nouveau ornamentation. Built 1896-1900.

A freshly ploughed field in the background marks the end of the harvest and preparation for the next crop. A large flock of crows passes overhead in the distance. Had the ancient shepherds had means to travel fast, they would have noticed that rainbow is not anchored to the ground but moves with the viewer. They would have understood that the arc is in the eye of the beholder, that each of us has their own, personal rainbow. Had that happened, would they ever have dared to tell a story where rainbow is the sign of god's covenant with people?
Oh modern man, shackled by science and knowledge!

6th Year in a row we have had a severe thunderstorm pop in south central Nebraska late evening on the 4th of July. Thousands of strikes and the cloud to cloud lightning was simply breathtaking.
This storm crested right south of the I-80 Nebraska corridor, which is just south of Kearney. It was stationary for about an hour and then it pushed a little east before it grew and slowly moved to the southeast into North Central Kansas.

One of the things I find fascinating about Massachusetts are the large numbers of ‘glacial erratics’ dotting the landscape. It’s not hard to imagine how a glacier carved out this jagged scene.
I was very happy with this HDR composition. The moody dark clouds in the sky and the glow of the late afternoon sun, peaking through the trees as reflecting off the ice.

Our first non severe thunderstorms of the 2016 season.
I've been itching to get out to capture some Nebraska stormscapes. I was totally satisfied with that afternoons storm front that passed through about 6:30pm.
Not bad for my first batch of storm captures 2016!
