Power service still reaches the house but the feed from the grid is long gone.
Abandoned homestead, eastern Washington.
The clouds kept rolling in over the moon, but somehow I was able to get many shots. The heavens cooperated nicely! This shot was taken early in he evening when the moon was still quite visible and full, despite the clouds. No editing other than a bit of cropping on this shot.

These are truly My Best Lightning Captures to date!
An epic night of sunset light and storm light @ twilight. Its almost every storm chasers dreams... or at least, in my own opinion, to get along side of a storm like this, as its firing away some incredible CC & CG every few seconds. What more could you ask for...
I was that Lucky Gut that evening. Just mother nature and I. Close to home after a few long storm chasing jaunts is just fine by me. She was producing and I was capturing every incredible second of this storm.. No Forking Bolt went away that evening without me getting a snap of its presence.. lol

A complete makeover of this image from 2010 (flic.kr/p/82vKFX). The much improved noise reduction in DxO Optics Prime gives more room for artistic license.

Storms were to develop early afternoon but the dry line stalled. Late afternoon into mid evening the dry line pushed just to the west of our location.
With unusually humid conditions for this time of year in South Central Nebraska, this produced the perfect conditions for supercells to develop just to the southwest & west of Kearney Nebraska.
Rarely do we get to see the full development from nothing to a full fledged supercell and this one had fast development resulting in some of my best storm photography for 2012

Oh this photographic storm day wasn't over just yet...
A few hours after those first severe storm cells pulled through. More non severe storms were developing off to the south southwest as sunset was approaching.
Pulled off right on the outskirts of city limits. I had the perfect light as it was cresting through the approaching storm.

Nebraska gets a bad rap from folks that pass through this state due its flatness. (BTW the state is not all flat) Though It has some of the best perspectives one could ever want. It just depends on how you look at it.
I myself once hated to live here. Though my travels when I was younger I found out that Nebraska has a lot more to offer than what people think. You just have to look beyond what people say. There is a lot more here than one might think.
Perspective in this photograph... is what I want to you to view. The soul ambiance of a Pure Nebraska Sunset has its own magic. Until you experience this just once... Just as good as seeing one anywhere else on the Planet. In my words... better.
BTW there is a storm in the background.... lol Just had to put that in there...

Happy that our storm season has started. There are others like myself that waiting, planning, wanting the smell of the rain, to feel the wind blowing against your face, and just the welcoming of spring to plains of Nebraska. I truly wasn't disappointed.
Cresting strong storm cells now building just to the southwest of us. Yes they were severe, but nothing tornadic. We had strong wind gust causing gustnados, and some good hail.
I wasn't about to give up shop. I know for a fact that these are the perfect photographic opportunities with sun just about set. I couldn't resist. Plastic covering my camera, coat on and I was snapping away!

Met up with other fellow local chasers. We all had a good day of views from this storm. It was still severe warned as it moved into the counties to our northeast.
We had almost called it day as the storm was rapidly moving to the north, northeast. Finial light of the day was emerging... Sunset with peak lightning effect. Were were in for a treat.

Mid August 2014.... A very hot & humid Sunday afternoon. With only a %30 chance of storms developing, we had a chance for a severe weather to develop. Central & South Central Nebraska were due for a good August Storm.
Conditions were just right for storms to brew. Right after 4pm CDT, northern Buffalo County (just north of my location) was getting hammered with 2'" diameter hail. This storm was on a direct course to skim just to the north of the city.
Had to back off from this approaching supercell. Moved back to the very outskirts of northern Kearney Nebraska. Got to the highest point possible & starting taking snaps. What a photogenic beast storm. Talk about Ominous... This approaching shelf cloud was truly a foreboding cloud structure as it creased ever so closer.
