Had some nice clouds today and couldn't resist, no that's not right, "had to" stop and take some pictures of Castle Crags which is just south of Dunsmuir, California and off I-5. I knew with those clouds and light I had something to work with. All processing on this was with Lightroom CC.
The following stuff is more for my own interests, but you're all welcome to look or not, believe me I won't be offended if you don't have time.
I've added a few links to other pictures of Castle Crags, one is a tighter shot using the A9 and my 70-200mm with the 1.4x converter.
Also, this shot unedited, SOOC in case you want to see the difference the processing made.
And the last one is a picture from January 2016, and not nearly as nice.
Here's the tighter shot using the A9.

Pensamentos....
Pois nao sou nada,
apenas o reflexo de como seu cerebro me ve.
Entao, nao sou, nao vejo nao sinto
nao fui.
Apenas sou o que eu posso ser no fazer das coisas
que somos hoje, reflexos de tudo que passamos
e pelas experiencias da vida....

It was to good to be true, but right after sunset a secondary small non severe thunderstorm started to brew just to the southwest of Kearney.
Even though I just had a spectacular afternoon of some incredible stormscapes, I was in for a treat this night. An electrified thriller, one storm that I wont soon forget.

This old tree can be found in Shobrooke Park, close to Crediton. I just about managed to get this photo before a wall of hail hit me on my way back (approaching from the right hand side). The tree seems to have lived through a lot, not just in terms of the centuries it endured but it also seems to have survived some lightning or storm damage on the top.
The Palatki Heritage Site is an archaeological site near Sedona, Arizona. The site’s name, “Palatki,” comes from the Hopi language, meaning “red house,” a fitting moniker given the crimson cliffs that cradle its ruins. This composition of the cliffs looked like great rolls of cloth to me.

This one's from California's Central Valley where much of our Nation's fruit and nuts are grown. This shot was taken near Wasco after picking up a truck load of eggs from Central Valley Eggs. I have no idea if these are fruit or nut trees. As I drove I kept one eye on the road and the other on the storm clouds rolling in, looking for a "shot" along the narrow CA-56 (between I-5 and US-99). I also noticed stacks of bee hives spaced every couple of hundred yards. I pulled off the road onto the hard packed dirt. From here I was able to get the orchard, the fast moving storm clouds and the bee hives. Took several pictures, this being my favorite.
Tonight I'm back in the California Central Valley, about 60 miles North in Hanford. I'm at my delivery, but they're closed until AM tomorrow. Got a couple of hours before bed time, gonna post this and do some catching up on Flickr.
Well, that didn't go as planned, crappy internet speed last night. Made delivery at 4 AM, then drove to Tulare and the Love's truck stop. Good internet here using my Verizon Jet Pack for a WiFi hotspot connection. T-Mobile on my phone is slow here, but looking good on the Jet Pack.
Picking up nearby in a few hours, then to Laredo, Texas. Let's see if I can do some Flickr catching up in the meantime!!!

We had a long drive back to home! Behind the storm that afternoon was a full lit sky of mammatus cloud. We had to wait for the sun to peek out behind the clouds but that is when the real magic happened. The sky at dusk was simply epic!
An experienced... storm chaser knows that after the storm is one of the most photogenic parts of the storm. Some of the best shots I've ever taken have been on the backside of a thunderstorm. I call them Thundersets!
Now...if your not a storm chaser and one is patient enough to wait for the base of the storm to move with the limits of the sunset light. Special things can happen, have your camera ready there is always some magic happening!
This was that experience. There is no place like Nebraska!

Hwy 2 Bound Northwest...
Boiling afternoon temps... was a relief when the the cloud cover finally covered the sun that afternoon. From about 103 to 85 was a welcomed relief. I would be in the thick of it soon.
This monstrous storm system was creeping in from the northwest. As I got closer, or as it approached... it was from horizon to horizon.

It was approaching 12 hours chasing locally that day. Now over 800 captures from that afternoon. I have to admit I was tired...
It didn't make a difference... if it was photographic I was bound to stay out long enough to get a few good shots of the newly developing storms to our southwest. They were firing off a ton of cloud to cloud lighting.
I was only a few blocks from home, so I deiced to stick around to end this storm chasing day in a great way.

Early June 2026
Finally a severe storm that I was interested in. Had all the right signs, the right ingredients for this cell to create some spin. You have to be patient when your in the mix.
Once I'm in the mix I usually put all the electronics away and do everything visually. It really gives me the true perspective of what I'm actually looking for. The raw development of storm structure. I got what I came for that afternoon.
Massive, dark clouds loom over a flat prairie landscape, visually viewing this approaching severe storm. Distant trees and structures emphasize the vastness of the sky.

What a Day to remember...
I was just out of surgery for my left knee, I wasn't supposed to be out at all. Knee was swollen to the size of a soft ball or bigger. Wrapped & in a cast but I wasn't about to let one of the best photographic storms of the season pass me by. Mrs & Friends helped me into my truck. Gear in hand I was off!
Before I was able to get on this storm. Historically, this storm wrecked havoc on 16 counties with softball and baseball sized hail. I caught up with it just to the south of Minden Nebraska as I was traveling south. I would never get in front of it but only on the back side as it proceeded to the southeast into North Central Kansas.
From my point of view, it was one of the best photographic storm of the year in South Central Nebraska. Some incredible captures from the back side of this incredibly photogenic thunderstorm. Light & Shadow played well as the Sun peaked out at the end of this day!

A changeable day often leads to beautiful sunsets. Taken on a tripod - just a single frame. Wide angle 16-36 adapted onto the Canon R5. Struggled a bit with composition and the sun is a bit central for my liking - but the tramlines created greated FG interest so allowed them to take precedence. F13 to star the sun.
Garðar BA 64 is thought to be the oldest steel ship in Iceland. Launched in Norway in 1912, it was hunting whales in the Southern Ocean until sold to the Faroe Islands in 1936 and at the end of the second world war to Iceland.
In December 1981 Garðar BA 64 was deemed unfit for duty and was rammed ashore at Skápadalur valley in Patreksfjörður, Westfjords, Iceland. (from: Stuck in Iceland Dec 2012)
Josh and I stopped in a small town called Rheda Wiedenbrucke on our way to Cologne, Germany. The streets were empty, and that added to this historic beauty.
It was as if we stepped into a time machine.

On the Last Stormchase of the Summer. I had to make this one count. First chase in my new truck. I couldn't have asked for a better Nebraska Stormscape Scenario!
Found and open spot just to the south of Merna Nebraska. Had the perfect view and this thunderstorm was talking!
Loaded all the gear out and started my thing. This truly would become one of my best photographic outings for storms in 2020. Glad I made the effort to go. In spite I just had major surgery 3 days before!
