1972 Chevrolet C10 ~ Pleasant Valley, NY

Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Battlefield Park, Virginia, Summer 2016.

A lovely place to while away a few hours, almost had it to myself today.

A crabapple tree strewing its spent blossoms on the ground. The day was windy and the understory dappled by continuously moving patterns. I took several images and caught the tree looking at me in this one.

Happy Friday! Our second Palouse Workshop is starting today! Participants are in for a treat with many of the canola fields in full bloom. Instructor Ryan McGinty has scouted the best canola areas and with big clouds and thunderstorms forecasted for tonight, it could be pretty epic! Dates are set for Palouse 2021 and our loyalty members will get first notification. If you aren't a member yet, you can check out the program on our webpage.

This shot was taken on our last workshop at the end of May. Nice clouds and dappled light really made this scene come alive. I don't often shoot in midday, but these types of conditions are certainly an exception to that rule!

This is the third shot, of a small series taken in the woods.

No flash ........... natural dappled light!

A little gap in a passing cloud allowed the sun to highlight a small part of the east Lomond hill in Fife.

Taken in the wooded slopes of Shaugh Prior, up from the river. Full of little canyons & old trees : why more togs don't visit it is a shame, probably the steepness puts most off. Just as interesting as Wistman's woods which has been photographed to death.

No pain, no gain . . . . .

The Blackdown Hills are a range of hills along the Somerset-Devon border in south-western England, which were designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1991. The plateau is dominated by hard chert bands of Upper Greensand with some remnants of chalk, and is cut through by river valleys.

Revisited archive shot, greatly improved on first take . . . so going forward then.

I've got a hell of a backlog of images to get through but that didn't stop me from taking even more yesterday afternoon. It was absolutely beautiful up the falls, really peaceful too, I hardly saw another soul. The sun's rays through the mist from the falls put a big smile on my face too!

UPDATE: ok I admit to placing the leaf, it features in a couple of shots from this trek. It's placed on a rock.

The Little Owls have changed their flight path making it much harder to get in-flight shots of them.

Admittedly I pre-focused on the blades of grass you can see in this photo as I noticed the male's flight pattern regularly went over this area.

aviary pics

The Château de l'Aile is set by the lake in Vevey, on one corner of the Place du Marché. It has been sadly neglected by the authorities and the façade is in a sorry state. An association has been set up to save it, and sometimes they have an open day. So one Saturday I visited it, and was delighted to discover the garden, with its semi-circular aviary and pond: this part of the dark corridor is the door to the pigeon loft. It was a very sunny day and the light filtered through the trees, dappling the cobbled floor. The garden itself is walled and discreet; the apartments inside are fabulous, with high ceilings, beautiful (but creaky) parquet floors, windows and balconies overlooking the lake. Unfortunately photography was not allowed inside the main building.

The same female fox from before, but this time in lovely evening light. She's definitely getting bolder and now coming within a few metres.

Again, a big thank you to Tanya Linksey for making me aware of this place!

There is a serene and settled majesty to woodland scenery that enters into the soul and delights and elevates it, and fills it with noble inclinations. ~ Washington Irving.

Barely any light to work with... I'm really not sure how he manages just a little shaft of light coming in through the wee window.

Photographer's note:

This is a close-up. The blossoms appear much larger in the image than they did in 'real' life.
