A rare warm, sunny day in Falkirk and Cherry trees heavy with scented blossom creating a flowery tunnel.

I took similar shots here last year but the garlic and bluebells were out in the second week of May in 2010, so these are a good three weeks earlier this year.

Capitol Hill, April 30

I took a simple walk through the extended neighborhood after dinner tonight. The previous 24 hours had storms blow through, both meteorologically and anatomically, some severe. But by late afternoon both had seemingly settled and the sun came out to filter through the newleafed trees.

Confident that the internal storms were over, I went for that walk.

the line moves sloooowwly, but I don't mind as long as I've got something to read

Tonight I cropped this image from a photo that I took during a recent walk at Long Hill Gardens. Right now, you can find azalea in bloom, in many colors. I liked the lavender flowers, and the dappled light, which always reminds me of one of my favorite poems, "Pied Beauty" by Gerard Manley Hopkins. In fact, here it is:

Glory be to God for dappled things -

For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;

For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;

Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches' wings;

Landscape plotted and pieced -fold, fallow, and plough;

And all trades, their gear and tackle and trim.

All things counter, original, spare, strange;

Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)

With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;

He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:

Praise Him.

Adorned with a shady pergola this sitting area adds a human element to an urban setting.

We are walking through Lincombe woods, a gorgeous slice of Devon woodland. There are many paths traversing the steep hillside. You can just see the exit through the undergrowth on the left. Katherine seems to be enjoying this place.

A nice find on a fairly average site I visited today. It was a fine day and the filtered dappled light passing through the tree canopies was constantly moving over the helleborines.

While not a full eclipse in this area (northern NSW), the dappled light under the trees is interesting - every spot turns into a crescent sun.
