It's tricky to get good stranger close-up photos. I would have liked to take a photo of this gentleman straight on but in the end was only able to sneak this side view of his gorgeous mutton chops (actually part of his mustache, so called?) He had a dapper top hat in hand as well as dress shoes on!
Edward Peter Whaley
Born Montgomery AL, Sep 23, 1877
Married to Belle Davis, African-American music hall headliner.
Part of the comedy team of Scott and Whaley, Harry Scott and Eddie Whaley met in 1905 and came to the UK in 1909 to perform on the music hall stage. Their act involved Whaley as the dim black-face “coon” (Cuthbert) while Scott played a dapper, fast-talking sharpie (Pussyfoot).
They were the first black performers to star in a British film (Kentucky Minstrels (1934)). The popular double act recreated the roles they had popularized in their long-running BBC radio series.
