Just enjoying the beautiful autumn colours on an afternoon hike.
I've got some major catching up :)
Pleased to spot this beauty - Picromerus bidens - feeding on a caterpillar (oak eggar??) today!

Suspended in mid-air, the Tri-colored Heron has no intention of letting its dinner fall back into Horsepen Bayou.
Today's theme for the Macro Mondays group is 'Dangle'. This is a miniature lemon tree I purchased for £5 from a street trader. This was the only lemon on it!!!! I think it's a matter of time before it drops off.....Not really designed for the London climate this time of year....
HMM.
These Green Striped Darners are strong flyers and not bad acrobats, as you can see from this pose. I heard them fly by before I saw them since they are on the bigger side than the usual dragonflies I see. Happy Wing Wednesday!
This was taken outside of the rehab when we were visiting my cousin.

Long time no flower image, so here is one of the few I took quite recently with my own Christmas present (yes, I didn’t have much time to take images with it, apart from a few portraits of my nephew’s second birthday): my new Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art. For so long, I was using my beloved vintage lenses even though they lack sharpness, but they have very special characters in terms of their bokeh. However, I was always thinking about upgrading from my Helios 85mm f/1.5, but since I also didn’t have a camera body with Eye AF back then, I decided to save the money.
Since I now have the Sony A7IV which has an amazing Eye AF, the Sigma Cashback during Christmas time caught my attention. And long story short: due to the many positive reviews of this lens, I got myself a copy and I don’t regret it. Having never used Eye AF with a portrait lens before, I was extremely impressed with its performance, and apart from portraits I recently also found some time to shoot the flowers in my parents garden. Even though nothing can beat some grand and otherworldly landscapes, I still love strolling around our garden and searching for the many beautiful compositions that can be found there.
This time, the bleeding heart was blooming, but it took a few minutes until I figured out a beautiful composition. Even though I shot wide open, there were still some distractions from the surrounding plants in the frame. So I stepped back and utilized the flowers and the greenery in the foreground to create some foreground bokeh. Finally, I tried placing the bleeding hearts in the brighter bokeh areas of the illuminated meadow in the background such that they really stand out. All in all, I really like how this image turned out, not only because it’s tack sharp, but also because it has that painterly look I always strive for in my flower images. I hope you like it too!
Context shot for Macro Mondays - Dangle.

macro monday: a favorite pair of earrings that my daughter gave me made by a friend of hers. Bokeh lights in the background. Handheld them up to dangle so focus was a bit tricky
