Diese Party findet seit Jahren in den Monaten von Mai bis September in Köln statt. Die Philosophie der Poller Wiesen ist einfach: Auf einer von Natur umgebenen Wiese wird Sonntag Mittags ein Sound-System aufgestellt. Beim Picknick mit musikalischer Untermalung trifft man Freunde und man legt auf dem Rasen ein paar gute Dancemoves hin.
Oft dabei: Richie Hawtin (Plastikman) und Ricardo Villalobos (Cocoon).

Warum heissen die PollerWiesen eigentlich Poller Wiesen?
Wo könnte es schöner gewesen sein als auf den Rheinwiesen in Köln-Poll mit weitem Blick auf die Domspitzen. Hier gab es legendäre Momente, die den Namen der Veranstaltung ins kollektive Gedächtnis brannten. Erstaunlich, denn die Poller Wiesen haben schon an 13 verschiedenen Orten stattgefunden. Deshalb ist die allsommerliche Frage "Wo sind die Poller Wiesen?" gar nicht so sinnfrei, wie man als Kölner denken mag.

Another jumping spider, this one quite a bit bigger, and a lot more pale. With a shiny green back (a better shot of that will be coming in a day or three).
I love fortuitous photo events, where I'm trying to take a picture one one thing, and then another thing comes ambling into my viewfinder.

He poked his many eyes out, and slowly crept out, doing this Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi dance move. He was mostly fearless, allowing me to get the camera good and close for his arachnid portraiture.
Q: What do you do when your downstairs neighbour starts playing horrendous techno music at full blast on Sunday morning, driving you completely mental?
A: Put your stereo facedown on the floor, jump around like maniacs as high as you can, pull crazy faces and spectacular dance moves. Obvious really.

They wouldn’t let us in the front door, so we’re easing into the Backdoor. A new monthly clandestine dance party dedicated to those who have been denied access, but took it anyways. Join us with your antics, outfits, and surprise dancemoves that = bootylicious.
BACKDOOR is a reminder of how marginalized folks have been denied front door access to social spaces and how people have always resisted that by creating their own spaces. We want this party to be a mix of all kinds of communities. A contrast between being forced to use the backdoor and meet clandestinely, and our choice now to meet together that way.
And of course, con cariño, our name is a reference to booty booty booty!
*This night will not be confined by labels! It's a straight night for queers, a queer night for straights and a confused night for everybody.
