France is famous for developing ballet. In 1581 the Ballet comique de la reine was performed at the French court of Catherine de Médicis. Because it fused the elements of music, dance, plot, and design into a dramatic whole, it is considered the first ballet.
A coyote pup puts it's right foot in. One of many dances choreographed daily at the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge.
The red crowned cranes mate for life and at the start of the winter the bonded pair perform elaborate and intricate courtship rituals that involve jumping, bowing and vocalizing. In this image I liked the beautiful wing positions and how the wing shadows of the bird on the right appear on the body of the one on the left. In one of those odd moments in a big city like Tokyo, the sun bounces off a nearby building and lights up a dimunitive apartment block surrounded by impassive towers.
In a strange twist - a Tokyo boy-band, working on their dance moves on a separate rooftop, are illuminated by the same sunbeam...

The greater flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) were grazing and skimming the surface of waters all through dawn (between 6am and 8:30 am). They were also dipping their heads just under the water's surface to find their favorite foods, popping their heads out of water occasionally.
Then perhaps after they are full, they started to raise their long necks stiffly towards the sky. They started to blabber and argue with each other very noisily as though they are in a serious debate. There was also occasional 'pecking the neighbor' activities by a few.
They swayed their heads on their erect necks towards right and left a few times, after which they spread their wings for a few seconds before closing them up.
Since I've seen the head-swaying of the Lesser Flamingos, which is their mating dance ritual, this could be the Greater Flamingo's way of saying that, "Look, I am very hale and healthy and so, no intrusion please!"
Whether mating ritual or not, this is surely a form of strong communication from these wonderfully tall birds.

The Gerewol of the Mbororo is somewhat different than a Gerewol in Chad. With the Mbororo it is important for the men to showcase their dancemoves and outfit in order to seduce the girls. While in Chad it is the same with addition of the showing of the eyes and singing. I guess this Mbororo man has taken a close look at what they do in Chad because he was one of the few who was working his eyes. Anything that could give him the edge with the ladies will work

I have a feeling this couple have done this before. One thing that photographing this event over the years has shown me, is the importance of the hands and arms and the many difference positions they seem to end up in... Even more, how effortlessly the couples seemed accomplish these maneuvers...
Halloween. The biggest night of the year for some...
Christopher nailed the dance move for the final image in the series. He was a trooper working through all the poses I wanted to shoot.
I decided to work outdoors because I needed a lot of room for the backdrop and lights, and especially because I wanted to use a fog machine - and boy oh boy did we fog the place up. So fun!

It happens every time. I've learned to tell them "okay hold on a second", pretend to check my LCD and then snap while they're doing the casual fun stuff so I can finally get a good image! LOL
