Latin Name/ Rosa Damascena.

The origin of the Damask rose (Rosa damascena) is believed to be in the Middle East, specifically in the region of Anatolia, which is now part of Turkey.

It is also suggested that the hybrid first arose in Anatolia several millennia ago, and it has been cultivated since antiquity.

Some evidence indicates that the origin of rose water is Iran, while the origin of its fragrant oil and extracts is Greece.

The first Damask roses are thought to have arrived in Europe at the time of the Crusades.

It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important. Antoine de Saint-ExupƩry, The Little Prince.

Rosa damascena, more commonly known as the Damask rose, or sometimes as the Rose of Castile, is a rose hybrid, derived from Rosa gallica and Rosa moschata. Further DNA analysis has shown that a third species, Rosa fedtschenkoana, is associated with the Damask rose.

The flowers are renowned for their fine fragrance, and are commercially harvested for rose oil (either "rose otto" or "rose absolute") used in perfumery and to make rose water and "rose concrete". The flower petals are also edible. They may be used to flavor food, as a garnish, as an herbal tea, and preserved in sugar as gulkand. Source Wikipedia.

Antoine Marie Jean-Baptiste Roger, comte de Saint-ExupĆ©ry(29 June 1900 – 31 July 1944) was a French writer, poet, aristocrat, journalist, and pioneering aviator. He became a laureate of several of France's highest literary awards and also won the U.S. National Book Award. He is best remembered for his novella The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) and for his lyrical aviation writings, including Wind, Sand and Stars and Night Flight.

Saint-ExupƩry was a successful commercial pilot before World War II, working airmail routes in Europe, Africa and South America. At the outbreak of war, he joined the French Air Force (ArmƩe de l'Air), flying reconnaissance missions until France's armistice with Germany in 1940. After being demobilised from the French Air Force, he travelled to the United States to persuade its government to enter the war against Nazi Germany. Following a 27-month hiatus in North America, during which he wrote three of his most important works, he joined the Free French Air Force in North Africa, although he was far past the maximum age for such pilots and in declining health. He disappeared over the Mediterranean on a reconnaissance mission in July 1944, and is believed to have died at that time.

Prior to the war, Saint-ExupĆ©ry had achieved fame in France as an aviator. His literary works – among them The Little Prince, translated into 300 languages and dialects – posthumously boosted his stature to national hero status in France. He earned further widespread recognition with international translations of his other works. His 1939 philosophical memoir Terre des hommes—Man and His World became the name of an international humanitarian group, and was also used to create the central theme of the most successful world's fair of the 20th century, Expo 67 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Beautiful Damask Rose at Dudmaston Hall. Viewed in the low light, for me it was reminiscent of a series of minor volcanic eruptions.

Re-birth mission .... with other crazy people

The hallway decor in my rather garish and ott house :)

Coloring is very close to black but is actually a really dark chocolate color.

The name says it all. The fragrance of this rose is an absolute delight. The powerful perfume of damask rose lures you in to take a closer look at the brilliant, lipstick pink flowers. Long-pointed buds spiral open to reveal large flowers with excellent form. While established plants will produce the immense blooms that this rose is known for, younger, less mature plants will have smaller flowers for the first season or two-- but they're well worth the wait. The upright, bushy plants are filled with glossy, leathery foliage and put forth the high-centered blooms on long stems perfect for cutting. Flower Size: 4-6", Fragrance: Strong rose, Hybridizer: Weeks, 1974

Maison de Damask is an abandoned late 19th century French mansion. The house has a very classic Parisian feel to it, with its nostalgic decor and homely features. The inside exceptionally well-preserved, appearing to be frozen in time since the day it was abandoned.

I loved thelook of this cake... very classy and modern... simple but not...
