Challenge: Inspired by a Photographer. My dad has always been and is still a photographer. In this photo are images of one of his favorite subjects and the camera given to him by his parents. Dad...always an inspiration!

Macro is going to look a whole lot different this coming spring and summer.
Dads old camera (with bellows!! lol..) on new Joby GorillaPod tripod. Back when you had to manually hand crank the film and watch the little window for the number to increase. lol..
Still have to finish going thru all of dads camera stuff. I love reading the old user manuals!! Being self taught, I always learn something. ;-)

Here are my parents celebrating Dad's 90th birthday. Friends and family gathered to wish him well. Knowing what I knew, it was a bittersweet moment. I am sure this will be the last photo I will take of them together. No need to comment, just don't forget to tell people who you care about that you love them. B

Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, Tinghir - Marrakech.
“Kasbah” is a word that comes from Arabic - qasaba - which literally translates to citadel.
They were built starting from the seventeenth century, although some of those we find along this road are no older than 100 years.
All are built with the "pisé" technique (straw and small pebbles cemented with mud) or in raw earth and decorated with Berber motifs.

As I mentioned under the last posted photo, it´s getting more and more difficult to persuade my daughter to pose for photos. My dad is (in the time being) more cooperative. :-)

taken last night while dad was washing dishes...he'll spend hours washing dishes and wiping down the kitchen counters....he takes great pride in his work and is always asking me to come see how he's done...
his other fave activities are sweeping the porch, raking leaves, watering the yard and flowers...but it is too cold outside for that now...I'm happy he still enjoys doing these simple tasks...even watching tv can be a struggle at times as he can't follow the plots much these days...but mom has music shows and music playing alot on the tv, and that really perks him up- he likes to sing along and dance...

My cube mate said the other day, "I wish my dad could come visit me." She was expressing a feeling about her dad, living far away in Michigan, but it hit me like a fist in the chest. I said, "I wish mine could too."
This is -- was? is? -- Dad's place in Collbran, Colorado.
I was first here about, ohhh, nine or ten years ago. I didn't get it, then. I was young, and the view was impressive in a technical sense, but the awe just wasn't there. At that point, I was more in awe of cities. That's an aspect I've since lost.
Then, I came again four years back, and was utterly wow'ed. I got why he wanted to move there. It helped to have a house on the property; oddly, a domicile gives it all a bit of context, as far as "I Want To Live Here." The awe was present. The view, spectacular in all directions. The sky, far larger than you get in Pennsylvania. It's like you're closer to God, or Heaven, or the Moon, or Orion and his Belt or Nebula Monkeys or whatever it is you believe in.
We were, of course, just there a few weeks ago. Awesome in the truest sense of the word, not, "Awesome, the soda machine just spit out two Coke Zeroes," but, "I am tiny and the world is profound."
Anyway.
Happy Father's Day to everybody.
Dad was sleeping in the chair beside his bed and I was sitting by him when I noticed how much character he had in his hands. I just wanted to capture them. I have realized we never know how much time we have left together and I want to remember it all.
When both my parents were alive, I would often take the bus to their apartment off of South Granville.
Then my Dad and I would walk the two blocks to Granville and window shop and chat and sometimes
go for lunch or just coffee. There were, at that time, lots of small stores with great window displays, plus
antique stores and art galleries, so plenty of eye candy to peruse and discuss. As he aged, the walks got
shorter and slower but he was always eager to escape from the stuffy apartment and my mom was glad
to have the place to herself, and I was happy to have my Dad all to myself, so we could discuss many
subjects that we couldn't around mom. Then when we got back, Dad would go for a nap, and Mom and
I would visit ... and now I sometimes think of something I wish I had asked them, many questions about
their childhood and youth ... I miss them ... and am left to ponder the mysteries.
