today my dad died, and I no longer have my biggest fan

This is going to be a little deep.

I got into photography because of my dad, we would go on trips and he would pull out the 35mm(s)! I loved the photos!

Back in high school I always used those cameras downtown Chicago.. buildings, light trails, windows, doors, etc

For some reason I stopped....it was always in the back of my mind

Years later Photography came up because of something my Oncologist said to me: I needed a hobby

I had been sending my dad cell phone photos of storms and sunsets in Arizona. It all clicked I should buy a DSLR and the rest is history....39 national parks later 350,000K photos

I have my hobby thanks DAD.

RIP ....

Rod Stewart said it best:

"We got but one shot at life, let's take it while we're still not afraid

Because life is so brief and time is a thief when you're undecided

And like a fistful of sand, it can slip right through your hands"

Just a box of dust now

I miss my dad

This dad is taking care of his two grackle babies. They're big enough and old enough to feed themselves and often do but as long as dad is willing to cater to them they will take advantage of it.

I never had a close relationship with my father. He died in 2014.

One of my childhood memories is that we used to watch a documentary together every friday night. It was at a time when there were only 3 TV channels out there.. *smile* ... now you know that I must be quite old .. but TV already was in color *grins*

What's left is my love for documentaries bout nature, sience, travels ... and the fragrance of the vanilla tobacco of that pipe...

What a good Burrowing Owl dad. He brings breakfast for one of his hungry owlets. Besides being the provider, he also takes out the trash, gives flight lessons, and stands guard over his family and their home. Happy Father's Day.

I think he's had enough me!

The juveniles ducked down when dad came flying in fast with this big fish.

You have fulfilled your purpose here on earth, Dad...go to Mom. My father is whole again after passing yesterday. I will miss you, but find comfort knowing that you are happy again with mom. God Bless and see you later, dad.

Mah si... in fondo è tutta una partita a dadi con la fortuna... questa vita !

He wasn't happy with my being in the garden hoping to catch the cubs playing and barked at me until I went inside. This was taken from inside my house and I still felt guilty..

sister posted this picture on facebook so I painted it.

Lake of Menteith...if only the Osprey came as close!

My dad introduced me to the hobby of trains and railroading 54 years ago. We have shared the hobby for decades and we always have something to share and to talk about.

I "kidnapped" him for a short road trip. He's 84, and a bit of a homebody, spending most of his time gardening, running the house (we lost mom last December), and taking care of Dolly, his rescue Chihuahua.

We made the short hike from Soldier Hollow along Deer Creek Reservoir and photographed Heber Valley Railroad's GP9 rolling along the lake. He was thrilled and can't stop talking about the good times he had that afternoon. The good news for me is, he's ready for another road trip.

My month away brought me back here after 11 years, thrilled to reunite with Dad! He's in the background and that is one of his two horses.

I spent yesterday remembering Dad, at one of his favourite parks. Before he went on ahead in 2000, he suggested that we could honour him by taking the grandkids out for ice cream. We continued that tradition yesterday on his birthday. It's good to remember those we've loved and those who've loved us.

Challenge: Inspired by a Photographer. My dad has always been and is still a photographer. In this photo are images of one of his favorite subjects and the camera given to him by his parents. Dad...always an inspiration!
