What you see before you is (I think) the first grappa to have been made in the UK. Originating in the Devon Distillery, DAPPA is the brainchild of a guy named Cosmo Caddy (strong name confirmed). The distillery itself is based in Teignbridge (which, if you hadn’t guessed, is in Devon…)
Anyhow, this is the 2013 vintage, the first they have created, and is produced mainly with Rondo and Pinot Noir grape skins. They also use smaller quantities of Regent and Dornfelder - presumably to shake up them spiritous flavours. The grapes are sourced from a number of prestigious English vineyards: think Sharpham, Three Choirs, Bolney, Biddenden and a few others.
Inspired by the style of grappa from Northern Italy, DAPPA is distilled by hand in Devon, using an Italian copper still, and under the supervision of a veteran Italian distiller. As for where to find it? They retail online, but the drink is also quite commonly available around Devon and the more fashionable bars in some of the bigger cities (think the HIX bars in London etc). This vintage also picked up a silver at San Francisco World Spirit Awards 2015 - which can only be a good thing…

Flaman asıllı doktor ve aydın insan Olfert Dapper (1636-1689) klasik yunan ve latin edebiyatını mükemmel derecede bilmekteydi. Amsterdam'da doğmuş, öğrenimini Utrecht'te tamamlamıştı. Ömründe hiç seyahat etmemekle birlikte kendini coğrafya çalışmalarına verir, böylece yapıtlarında geniş bir alana yayılan bilgileri hep kaynakçalara dayandırır. Düzenli ve merkezci çalışma uslubu sayesinde araştırma ekibini örnek sayılabilecek bir biçimde yönetip şaşılacak bir sıklıkla Çin, Asya, Afrika, Amerika, Amsterdam ve doğu Akdeniz adaları hakkında tarih ve coğrafya incelemeleri yayınlar. Bunların dışında portolan (liman) haritaları ve isolario denen ada haritaları (Cr. Buondelmonti, B. Bordone, T. Porcacchi, M. Boschini, V.M. Coronelli), çağdaş gezginlerin tanıklıklarını (P. Belon, G. Sandys, Sieur Du Loir, J. Spon ve G. Wheler v.b.), zamanının doğru haritalarını (J. & C. Blaeu v.b.) ve de Hollandalı tacirlerden aldığı bilgileri kullanır. Bu eser Dapper'in öteki eseri "Archipel"'in tersine başka dillere çevrilmez; nitekim sözkonusu kitabın sadece Osmanlı-Venedik savaşı sırasında (1685-1688) Venediklilerin kazandığı muhteşem zaferleri övmek için yayınlanmış olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Çarpıcı gravürlerden birçoğu V.M. Coronelli'nin yapıtlarından esinlenmiştir. Bu eser ilerideki gezginler için yararlı bir el kitabı ve danışma metni oluşturmuştur.

Olfert Dapper (1636-1689), a Flemish physician and intellectual person, knew perfectly the classical Greek and Latin literature. He was born in Amsterdam and completed his education in Utrecht. Although she never travels in her life, she gives herself to geography studies, so she always bases her knowledge on a wide area in her works. Thanks to his regular and centrist working style, he manages his research team in an exemplary way and publishes history and geography studies about China, Asia, Africa, America, Amsterdam and eastern Mediterranean islands. These books are decorated with high aesthetic standard maps and engravings.
The publication used mostly ancient Greek and Latin literature authors such as Herodotos, Pausanias, Plutarch, Ptolemy, Strabon, Aged Plinius, Apollonios, Hesychios, Pomponius Mela, Solinus, Stephanus Byzantius, John Hrisostomos. Apart from these, portolan (harbor) maps and island maps called isolario (Cr. Buondelmonti, B. Bordone, T. Porcacchi, M. Boschini, VM Coronelli) testify to contemporary travelers (P. Belon, G. Sandys, Sieur Du Loir, J Uses Spon and G. Wheler etc.), accurate maps of his time (J. & C. Blaeu etc.) and information from Dutch traders. Unlike Dapper's other work, "Archipel", this work is not translated into other languages; as a matter of fact, it is understood that the book was published only to praise the magnificent victories won by the Venetians during the Ottoman-Venetian war (1685-1688). Many of the striking engravings are inspired by the work of VM Coronelli. This work created a useful handbook and advisory text for future travelers.
