D123 Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry drifts into Quorn and Woodhouse with a parcels/mail train, Great Central “Mail by Rail” Gala, 26th July 2008.
Locomotive History
D123 was built at Crewe Works and entered traffic in November 1961. Like most of the class, it was initially allocated to Derby, where it worked express trains on the Cross Country and the Midland Main Line routes. The engine was allocated close to the Midland Main Line all its life. In 1973 the Midland Main Line services started to migrate from steam heating to electric heating of the coaching stock and D123 was one of fifty class 45 locomotives selected to have its Stone Vapour 4625 steam heating boiler replaced with electric train heating equipment (a Brush BL100-30 ETH auxiliary alternator) and emerged from Derby Works in April 1974 as 45125. It was withdrawn on 7th May 1987, and was towed for storage at March on the 20th May 1987. The engine was stored with a number of others for four years before purchase for preservation. It was towed to Hull Dairycoates depot in late 1991, where it stayed for the next seven years until D123 moved to Loughborough, arriving on April 2nd 1998.
Rhuis - Oise (France)
An attraction, with its physical appearance of "model" which is noticeable by far in the region, 3m of height for 2,30m of wide. It is the Young lady de Rhuis.
This Young lady, everything of stoneware dressed, is the only survivor of a group of raised stones built in the time of the Neolithic and which allowed to draw a limit between several communities.
Situated in full field, on the left bank of the Oise, you can admire it on the road D123 which connects Rhuis with Verberie.

Class 45 D123 makes a rousing departure from Loughborough with the 09.50 to Leicester North on Fri 6th September 2024, day 1 of the GCR Autumn Diesel Gala.
The right hand ground dolly is showing green for the Down Loop. Prior to working the evening diner Stanier 6P Jubilee 4-6-0 45596 Bahamas, silhouetted against the setting sun, is taking water at the tank. We had just finished emptying the ashpan on shed and I handed over to my relief.
Over on the Up Through the line of diesels is headed by recently repainted Peak D123.
The 5305 Locomotive Association is also the custodian of Peak Class diesel D123 which as part of the "5 Farewell" weekend was also operational today.
From my location in the 5305LA/Shed shop I could also catch this engine heading off shed at 09.30.

Another shot from my last firing turn of 2021 on British Railways Standard 9F 2-10-0 92214. We worked a 9 hour day but only made one trip to Leicester - on the 13.00 dining train. After steam heating the coaches at the north end for 90 minutes we ran round to the front but still had 25 minutes to go before departure.
First we had to propel the train backwards because as this shot shows we were under the bridge and well forward of the Starting signal. Peak diesel D123 and in a dmu are in the Down Sidings.

Standard 2-10-0 9F 92214 Leicester City and Peak D123 Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry depart Loughborough Central light engine, 8th August 2020. In actual fact the lead engine 92214 is not in steam and is “dead”, being pushed at a steady 5mph or so by D123. Although the Great Central Railway was open due to the Covid 19 restrictions it was only open to the public between Quorn and Leicester North, with Loughborough Central being closed and I suspect this pair were on their way to Quorn to go on display in the yard.

All bar 45125 (D123) were scrapped at M.C Metals, Glasgow in 1992.
The line through the gate entered the M.O.D. Army depot, Hilton.
If you followed that today, it would lead to a housing estate. No surprise there then!
