In Intercity livery, 47525 was stood at Leeds with the 10.42 departure to Carlisle via the S&C on October 20th 1987.
The 47 was one of the last constructed, emerging new from Crewe Works in January 1967 as D1108.

The label on this slide read D1108 trundles up the GN Main at Heck with D3234 and E59231 en route to Donny Works on the 31st January 1974, so we will go with that!
D1108 was new to York North from Crewe Works in January 1967. It became 47525 under tops and we think it was withdrawn by EWS in May 1998 and was dumped at Carnforth for years before being cut up at EMR Kingsbury in 2010.
Still a York loco in the late 70's it was known to the local bashers as Deltic 23 and could more than trundle!
D3234 was new to BR as 13234 in at Hull Dairycoates in January 1956 and withdrawn as 08166 in July 1982 as vacuum braked only, we think it was a Hull Botanic Gardens loco at this time.
E59231 was a Class 104 centre trailer dating from December 1958 and withdrawn in March 1981.

Its Bristol Temple Meads at 19.52 but no idea as to the exact date.
Not sure if the rear 47 has failed here or what, looks like a parcels service and the front loco is 47525. This is my 2nd favourite 47/4 and the one I have clocked the fastest speed on when it was York based and working the ECML.
It was new as D1108 to York in January 1967 and stayed on the Eastern until moving to Eastfield in May 1987. It then flitted around and although I can't find an exact withdrawl date was cut up in 2010.

Another of the batch of B&W negs I bought last week, this time it yielding this image of one of my favourite Class 47s. 1108 became 47525 which was known as Deltic 23 by the York bashers of the late 70's as it had a good turn of foot.
I am hoping someone can fill be in on the location, the 03 made me think of Berwick but not sure the track formation goes with that. The thing to stop too high wagons (sorry no ideal what it is called) entering the sidings may also give a clue, and the Headcode of 1E11 should help. The loco was new in January 67 to York and moved around 6 or 7 times in its first 6 years, but never further south than Holbeck, it was eventually withdrawn in October 2007 after 40 years of service.
No date but one of the Class 50 photos in the same batch has been identified as June 1969.

47525 heads north with an East Coast Main Line express at Swayfield, 21st April 1979.
Locomotive History
47525 was originally D1108 and entered traffic in January 1967 allocated to York MPD. For the next twenty years it would allocated to MPD’s (York, Holbeck and Gateshead) which had “top link” East Coast Passenger duties and it could be generally found spend pounding up and down the East Coast Main Line on express passenger, sleeper and “excursion” traffic. Its final ten years in service would find it a travelling the country (twelve transfers in ten years) with spells allocated to Eastfield (1987), Old Oak Common (1987), Bristol (1988, 1991, 1992), Crewe (1989, 1992, 1998), Stewarts Lane (1992), Immingham (1992), Bescot (1994), Tinsley (1995) until withdrawn in September 1998. After two and half years dumped at Crewe it was towed to Wigan CDRC in April 2001 where it stayed until January 2002 before being towed to Carnforth where it would spend the next eight years until being transported to EMR, Kingsbury for disposal in April 2010. It was broken up during July and August 2010.
The curve and the cant make life awkward for the driver of 47525 as he looks back down his train awaiting the “right away” from the guard with a northbound East Coast express at Grantham, 13th April 1979.

Chester sometime between August and October 1991 and 47525 (the fastest 47 I ever timed when it was a York loco in the late 70's) is on I guess a Holyhead to Euston service.
The loco was new as D1108 in 1967, it was finally cut up in 2010 but withdrawn a long time before that as far as I can see.
I remember this day as well, a series of Photographs taken at Hadley Wood on the 24th of August 1970, Here we have Class 47 D1108 of York on an up Parcels service.
I also remember this loco well as when it became 47525 it was referred to as Deltic 23 by the York Bashers in the late 70's and it attained the highest speed I had from a Class 47 (between York and Darlington) during the brief time I spent timing trains.
I can't quite make out whether it was withdrawn in 2001 or 2007.
The front ends of three of the last batch of ten Brush Type 4 (later Class 47/4) 2,750 hp Co-Co's No.D1102, D1104 & D1108 (later 47 519, 47 521, 47 525) in two-tone green livery at York Shed, 07/67. Note coal bunker in background. Scanned photograph taken with a Kowa SET camera.
47525 (the fastest 47 I ever timed at 104mph) is running in from Crewe Works in front of train engine 47351 on the Birmingham To Llandudno service on Saturday 27th August 1977 when seen at Llandudno Junction.
Go South Coast Scania OmniCity 1108 is one of three in more livery with additional route adverts for the summer only 30 route from Swanage to Weymouth. On 12th December 2020 Scania OmniCity 1108 was seen at Poole bus station.
47525 rests in the horse landing at Crewe after a working life of thirty two years. Built in 1967 as D1108 and withdrawn at Crewe in early 1999, it was stored for a few years at Crewe before being scrapped at EMR Kingsbury in 2010. In this image it keeps company with 47802 in this shot plus 31102, 47350, 47312 and 47513 (not pictured), of these locomotives only 47350 and 47802 escaped and both are now part of the West Coast Railways fleet, 47350 has been renumbered to 57005 but is currently non operational.
Three Spires Junction signalbox on 6 August 1988. Class 47 no 47525 approaches with the SO Poole-Nottingham train.
47525 was originally numbered D1108 and was delivered new from Crewe works in January 1967. It was withdrawn from service in May 1998, and was scrapped at EMR in Kingsbury in August 2010.
The box closed in September 1998, I believe after being vandalised.

Soon to be renumbered under TOPs are Brush Type 4 1108, still in green livery, which became Class 47 47525. At its side is Brush Type 2 5558 which became Class 31 31140. It was later eth fitted and renumbered 31421.
