While a group of brave warriors battles against the evil forces attacking the kingdom of Ducican, a party of skilled fighters gets hired by the queen of Ducican to go on a dangerous quest to find the Bracelet of Necromancy; a long lost magic artifact said to allow the wearer to practice magic in ways previously unthinkable. Despite the lack of any major clues to the current whereabouts of the Bracelet, the small yet promising group of mercenaries decides to start a search for the artifact by traveling across the entire country to find it.

Dowhn, Lawful Neutral: A Fighter from an unknown species, who is very skilled with using a trident. Despite his extroverted and talkative personality, details about his past are a subject he often tries to avoid during conversations. The other members of the group have come up with the theory that he is the descendant of a long-forgotten aquatic species who were wiped out generations ago, but they have never found enough evidence to support this.

Larasotra Oakflight, True Neutral: An elderly Elf Cleric, who draws her power from the Demiurges of the Square Table, the creators of the world around her. Ever since she saw a vision of the four Demiurges granting her their powers on her 18th birthday in the form of a powerful crystal, she has devoted her life to worshiping them and using her gift for the greater good. With the use of her staff, she is able to heal people with severe injuries along with casting a wide array of other spells. However, now that she is almost 650 years old, her memory is not what it used to be. Because of this, she carries a sheet with some of the most useful spells she can cast in case she forgets these in the middle of a battle.

Rodwic Lethud, Chaotic Neutral: A Human Ranger who used a bow and arrow as his main weapon. After his alcoholic dad left the house shortly after his mother’s death when he was roughly 6, Rodwic was left to survive on his own. For a long while he got his money and food through pickpocketing unsuspecting people on the streets, but after a while he discovered that he was quite talented with using a bow and arrow. After meeting Larasotra and Dowhn in a tavern who helped him improve his combat skills, they decided to take on a dangerous quest together to find a strange artifact for the queen of Ducican.

Bacon: The group’s pet pig who has accompanied them for years. Nobody in the group quite knows where he came from or if he is more than just a regular pig, but he has shown signs of high intelligence in certain situations.

After days of searching, the group finally finds the Bracelet of Necromancy deep in a dungeon stuck on the skeleton of a fallen warrior. While Larasotra is admiring all of the details engraved on the bracelet after she puts it on her wrist, she accidentally activates the artifact. The text inscribed on the bracelet starts to glow yellow, and soon after the long-decayed body suddenly springs back to life again with its eye sockets glowing yellow as well. At first the skeleton stares at his own hands, severely confused at the fact he’s alive again, but as soon as he catches sight of the party standing in front of him he reaches for his weapon. As Dowhn and Rodwic prepare to battle the skeleton, Larasotra quickly inspects the text engraved on the artifact. Unfortunately, this does not make the situation any more hopeful.

‘’Every user of this artifact shall be able to resurrect the dead. However, only one with pure royal blood shall be able to control the undead.’’

Now Larasotra gets why the queen was so interested in the artifact. Seeing as she has pure royal blood, she should be able to command the undead to fight the enemy forces threatening the Ducican kingdom. But that’s not an issue to worry about for the elderly Cleric at the moment; Right now, as more and more skeletons start rising from the ground, her focus has to be on the battle she is about to face.

The lights from the Melbourne Star and the lights from the newly built cylindrical building on New Quay come every evening to play on the Docklands' waterfront. That night, it seems, they were high and thus there were these dramatic reflections. The camera enjoyed the show.

A pair of YN2 AC's sit next to D tower in Grafton on a bitter cold December night.

I'm not even sure how it happened. I was removing an axle from the side that broke off, and then SNAP! I never even saw any cracks or anything. D:

And I have the worst luck with Technic pieces. 1/2 tall beams with axle holes getting cracks, pins of various lengths breaking, bushings cracking in the middle and the ends, and one time, I got a set the an axle that was partially melted or crunched in the middle. This is why I'm a System guy, Technic isn't 100% compatible with System and it isn't even 100% compatible with itself.

Yesterday I posted an older photo taken from the Carson bridge that showed how wide open the area was in 1978. Here is a view from 11 years later in 1989. Already the side view has been taken away by the growth on the left, which today is nothing less than a forest!. A D&H/NYSW coal train is Eastbound at Carson on the East side of Canisteo, NY on 4/23/1989. You could still get a little bit of a side overhead view with good lighting at that time.

Another view of this train further East:

I'm not gonna lie: I've enjoyed taking the Flickr app off my phone and not feeling the pressure of trying to constantly keep up on my feed. But, I've quietly checked in at times on my laptop, favorited a few photos here and there, and then gone back to great times with the family amidst a busy season at work.

But, on the flipside, I always figured I'd post something again at some point. It was just a matter of feeling inspired to do so.

Well, that inspiration has come from two, whirlwind trips to Western New York. With me having a work-related meeting on Saturday, October 1st, followed by plans to spend the balance of the weekend doing a brief, overnight railroad photography trip with a couple old chase buddies, my wife wisely decided it was a good time to head up to Potsdam with our 4-year-old son to visit her parents for a long weekend.

With my wife and son planning to leave Thursday morning, I realized I had an unusual chance to make a quick, two-day trip before getting home in time to go to my work-related meeting on Saturday morning. A last-minute check with an old friend from seminary who lives in East Rochester, I confirmed I had a place to crash Thursday night.

So, after seeing my wife and son off on Thursday morning, I was headed west. The ultimate goal? The Falls Road out of Lockport, NY, which was a bucket list item I wanted to check. Unfortunately--thanks to CSX not dropping for them--all they did on Friday was spot cars in the yard with their RS-32 facing long-hood forward. Definitely a bummer.

What saved the trip, though, was cleaning up on the Finger Lakes Railway. I've done a little with the Finger Lakes before (including having the chance to ride a good portion of the railroad in a speeder on a NARCOA trip years ago), but I always wanted to do more. Well, this trip provided the chance.

While Friday the Finger Lakes was the backup plan, on Thursday it was the plan on the way out. I knew that Train GC-2 worked the Canandaigua line on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I also knew it generally ran against the light with leaving Geneva westbound in the morning and returning eastbound in the afternoon. But, the line turns back south on its approach to Geneva, so I figured there'd be an angle or two.

I found the eastbound return train just east of the Village of Phelps, and boy was I happy to see what the power was: Lehigh Valley-inspired U23B #2201! After getting an OK shot at one crossing, I found this spot with perfect side light just after the Carter Road grade crossing in the Town of Phelps. After quietly walking back to the car, once inside I assure you there was some celebrating!
