Cosina CX-2, a curiously styled compact that somewhat made the Russians go wild! So wild that they decided to have a go at making one, a perfect duplicate that would many years after become a celebrity, the LOMO LC-A. The Russians might have copied a lot of the camera, but not the reliability or the complex 5 element lens from Cosina. This camera is equipped with a very nice lens, if you are keen to get the LOMO type of photography, you can always attach a plastic lens in front, that will give you the same result, the advantage of the CX-2 being that you can always go back at camera with a decent lens. We should correct history, how about becoming ultra snobbish and create a new group? I have a very original name for it, COSINAGRAPHIE!!!
This is in my opinion the best car shot I have ever taken. Thanks for my friend Mido for taking the time to let me take photos of his beautiful Mazda CX-9.
I used a polarizer filter to control how I wanted the shine and reflections on the car to look, in Car Photography, a polarizer filter is a must. I use a B+W polarizer filter and it's great.
I wanted this to be really special as an HDR project, so after the usual HDR work in Photomatix, this was pushed to the limits (or at least my limits) in Photoshop CS2.
I separated the CX-9 from the background by using the magnetic lasso tool and copying the selection into a new layer, I did the same for the license plate, front low bumper, tires and wheels. You could easily lose track unless you make sure to rename each and every new layer you create.
Cutting out the car from the background makes editing the car levels, colors, shadows and highlights a whole lot easier, since you will only be affecting the car and not the background, the same also goes for the background when it's turn to work on it and edit it. Since this is already an HDR I didn't really want to hold back in Photoshop. I do believe the car ads and car photos you see in catalogs or magazines are worked on in a similar (but of course much better) way.
I'm still new at Photoshop editing and some of the drawbacks can be seen on this photo. But I'm pretty satisfied with the result for my current level. Improvements are sure to come. =)

Brand new 2021 Case F recolour of the reassuringly stock Matchbox Mazda CX-5 and looking particularly neat in its glossy black paint colour. Don't expect Tomica levels of quality and detailing but for what its priced at theres little to complain about. This example though does suffer from what looks to be double applied rear tampo detailing giving the impression of a blurred photograph! Found recently in Tesco. Mint and boxed.

The Citroën CX was built from 1974 until 1991. It was voted European Car of the Year in 1975. The CX used Citroën's famous hydro-pneumatic suspension system. This is a model with a 2.0 litre engine. Seen this one before. Despite its looks it still survives...
Citroën used to be a dominant force in the field of large executive cars. The iconic DS revolutionised the segment with all its luxuries and quirky features that would be uncommon on modern cars, let alone 1960s ones. The spiritual successor to the DS was the CX, which shared its father’s success and proved staggeringly popular, with Citroën selling over one million examples in the 15 year (17 for the estate) production run.
The last successful ‘big Citroën’ was a seemingly odd candidate for a delivery vehicle, then. Surely, if you wanted to make a delivery, you’d be better off going for a van or truck instead of a French saloon of questionable reliability. Coachbuilders Tissier thought otherwise. They saw a niche market for a high-speed delivery vehicle to transport items such as newspapers across continents within days, and deemed a converted saloon the perfect option, as opposed to a cumbersome van. A number of options were considered, though the obvious winner was the CX.
Other saloons of the time, with their conventional suspension systems, would have simply not worked. They would collapse on the floor in a twisted, metallic heap, and this is where Citroën enters. Their legendary hydropneumatic suspension was more than capable of carrying the extra hundreds ot kilos of weight, making the CX Safari (estate) the perfect car for the task. The conversion was less complex than you’d expect; a new rear suspension crossmember was added for the 3rd pair of wheels support the added weight (along with its own set of hydropneumatic spheres) and the car was cut from the rear doors back to be extended 690mm, before having the hatch and 4 rear wheels re-installed to complete the vehicle.
The suspension proved so robust that Tissier started to offer more CX variants, including car transporters like above. Two engine options were offered across the range; a Citroën turbodiesel 4-cylinder (33 US mpg) and a 2.5 litre fuel-injected petrol 4-cylinder (17-20 US mpg, also a Citroën engine). Both of these could be had with a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission, and were fit for gliding across Europe for hours upon end at comfortably over 100mph. Just don’t mention that last bit to le gendarmerie.
Sadly, once they had finished their service, it was a common practise to simply abandon the vehicles. Due to this, they are increasingly rare today, and tend to sell for rather a lot of money.

We have worked with ENVE Composites since they opened their doors. This relationship has helped us create some parts that really set our bikes apart.
Our Speedvagen Integrated CX stem is one of those.
Running the front brake cable through the front of the stem and directly to the brake eliminates the need for a cable hanger, offers a lower stack height and lessens brake chatter.

I had forgotten just how enormous these are and the owner slept quite comfortably in the back of this one. Interestingly it has a full LPG conversion rather than the usual dual-fuel, with only a tiny petrol tank for emergencies.

I last saw a Citroen CX about three years ago, on my drive home from work.
When I was a kid, I saw one every day, as the president of the Citroen owners club lived at the end of my street, on my walk to school. He also had a variety of even more odd and rare cars, not that I necessarily appreciated it at the time.
One day when I had come back home from university, he was out the front, talking with some other Citroen people, so I stopped by for a chat. The end result was a drive around the block.
As unusual as the CX looks from the outside, the inside view and drive experience is even stranger. It has some kooky rotary dials for instruments, but it was the self-centreing pneumatic steering, the zero-travel pressure-sensitive brake pedal, and the non-clutch, manual 3-speed gear-change with torque converter which really dominated the experience.
Having grown up with quite conventional, manual-everything, live-axle cart spring cars, the CX was out of this world.
I even like the shape - it looks like it is aerodynamic, but still beautiful.
This CX is a redo of a car from several years ago, but benefiting from some subtle, but effective redesigns of systems like the luggage compartment, windows, and some of the tricky bodywork contours.
