Spongy paperbark bark. I'd love to run these through a hammer mill and pelletizer and then see how well the pellets burn.

Here are some logs I cut to useful lengths and scrubbed for quite awhile with a pair of wire bristle brushes to expose the bug trails beneath, created by Eucalyptus Longhorned Borer larvae.
I was supposed to write an essay based on the idea of Francis Alys' Guards (2004), but somehow didn't write an essay at all and got very carried away. It went from a critical look at the place of walking in modern art to attempting to dissolve all logical meaning entirely. Initially a snide piss-take, I wrote a ludicrous non-story about the City of London and its inhabitants. After that the form of the essay went out of the window too. A fuller explanation and the complete PDFs can be found goo.gl/WdhlCg.
Printing the original document under the title "London Eats", I wanted it to be double-sided, but it came out on the same side of paper, to expectedly interesting results.
Reddish inside of Eucalyptus log. The checks form a kind of seed-like pattern, as though looking into a melon cross section.

A sans-serif typeface that has had 12 rounds in the ring and come out not looking too pretty! Rockit is a headline face with grunge textures, perfect for the rock band flyer, end of school gig, or anything else you feel needs a raw and filthy feel. With 3 styles of filthy-ness, see which works for you.
Another small stack on the other side of my jointer. The waxy Anchorseal dripping on my metal tables is okay, as it actually seals them, and makes them very slick, which is always preferable.

The only piece left after a silver maple was cut down and hauled away. I'm not sure why this was left behind. Perhaps too heavy for the city's clamshell bucket truck. As this crotch section suggests, the tree had evolved with a complex configuration of trunk and main stems. Wish I'd gotten a "before" pic of it. Besides being complex, I'd have to say it was not a thing of beauty. The worst part was how horribly misshapen it had become, after ruthless amputations by the tree "trimming" contractor who works for our utilities company.
I did also notice that my neighbor scavenged a couple of large trunk sections before the city truck made its rounds. Imagine he has furniture creations in mind. I'm curious to see the outcome.
