I love what I'm seeing in here. I don't have a lathe big enough to turn this yet, sadly, but I can always saw it into quarters and turn those on my mini lathe. Another option I'm considering is quarter-sawing one of these into smaller planks.
I think I've got enough of this stuff now that it's worth it to me to see how quarter-sawn planks will look with such interesting things going on inside. I know they'll be small planks - in the 2" range, but they can also be jointed and edge-glued to create wider panels that might look pretty neat. It'll be pretty funny to stack and sticker such little pieces :)

I particularly liked the slash across this piece. It's framed a bit in thin, dark lines. It's a bit prettier in real life.
I couldn't resist turning something like a little bottle stopper top. I couldn't find my arbor, but not really intending to use this piece for anything beyond seeing how the wood looked inside, and how it turned, I just stuck it between centers and had at it. I don't like the design (I was just freeforming to see and feel how it would turn), but I do like the patterns in the wood.
Getting into the habit of prepping food for the crockpot on Tuesday nights. Wednesday is a long day for everyone, so it makes dinner easier (and delicious). This time, it's chicken soup with a whole, cutup chicken. Plug it in in the morning, and you're done!
CutUp will take over the Seventeen gallery on Kingsland Road, transforming it into Grand Hotel Abyss, a makeshift studio for a month. Every night during the month, advertising posters from the surrounding area will be cut down, removed and taken into Grand Hotel Abyss, CutUp's temporary home. Here they will be reordered and prepared for their placement back into the spaces they came from.

Containment. Containment is a multilayered font system for creating headlines with fizz, gravel, snow, sand etc. With Containment, you get four fonts: A plain layer, a shadow layer, a crunchy-little-dots layer and a mix of all three. Looking for a companion font for Containment? Try Tandelle.
Taken at Thomas Bégin's installation "We're Looking For You" at Galerie B-312. Discs with holes rotatating at variable speeds create intense hypnotic flicker effects. Follow this link for the official writeup.
Alas, the expo is long over... I posted these photos elsewhere originally, and was asked to post 'em here.
I was supposed to write an essay based on the idea of Francis Alys' Guards (2004), but somehow didn't write an essay at all and got very carried away. It went from a critical look at the place of walking in modern art to attempting to dissolve all logical meaning entirely. Initially a snide piss-take, I wrote a ludicrous non-story about the City of London and its inhabitants. After that the form of the essay went out of the window too. A fuller explanation and the complete PDFs can be found goo.gl/WdhlCg.
The "Cut up" of writing was pioneered by Dadaists and later used by Beat Generation poets. I didn't manipulate individual lines or letters but instead used chunks of text and sewed them back together to turn the written text into something more visual and dissolve meaning even further.
We ventured to a different park today after school so I thought I'd do another page for our park album.

I tried to manually resaw this with my favorite Irwin 15" coarse-cut carpenter saw a few months ago, but gave up a bit past halfway, completely spent. My arm was too tired to finish, so I just cut in from the side to free the plank, which is still on a box in my living room, drying (i.e. forgotten :).
I was glad to have a chance to come back and clean up the piece, and free the small turning blanks hidden inside it. This log has been on the shop floor all this time,
