Regno Unito, Londra, St. James's Park, Autunno 2022

St. James's Park is the oldest of the Royal Parks of London and it has a small lake with two islands, West Island, and Duck Island, which is named for the collection of waterfowl. This includes a resident colony of pelicans, which has been a feature of the park since the first gift of the birds from a Russian ambassador in 1664. Though an earlier building existed on the island, the present Duck Island Cottage was built between September 1840 and April 1841 and became the residence of the birdkeeper by 1870. However, by the death of the veteran Bird Keeper, Thomas Hinton, who lived there for more than 50 years until 1953, it was in a state of disrepair, not least due to air raid damage from 1940, and considered unfit for human habitation. Having been saved from demolition it was extended and fully restored, to become the headquarters of the London Historic Parks and Gardens Trust in 1994.

The Cape du Couedic lighthouse is a prominent landmark in the South-West Coast of Kangaroo Island. Constructed between 1906-1909, it consists of a tower built from 2,000 pieces of local stone, together with three four-roomed cottages to house the head keeper and two assistants with their families.

For many of its early years the site was inaccessible by land. Stores, materials and equipment were brought by boat .

Handel: Tu del Ciel ministro eletto (Trionfo del Tempo);

Amanda Forsythe & Voices of Music 4K

Pure del Cielo intelligenze eterne,

che vera scuola a ben amare aprite,

udite, angeli, udite il pianto mio,

e se la Verità dal Sole eterno

tragge luce immortale, e a me lo scopre,

voglia infida, o vano ardor.

E se vissi ingrata a Dio

tu custode del cor mio

a lui porta il nuovo cor.

Tu del Ciel....

—Benedetto Pamphili

Pure and eternal spirits of heaven

who teach the art of true love

hear me, angels, hear my cries,

and as Truth from the ever-lasting Sun

brings eternal light, so I may receive illumination,

let my great desire be measured in my work.

You, the chosen minister of Heaven,

shall see no more in my heart

a faithless wish or vain passion.

And though I lived without thanks to God,

may you, the guardian of my heart,

bring to Him a new heart.

You, the chosen minister....

Beneath the clear sky, Monviso rises like an ancient king, silent guardian of the Po Valley. Its snow-clad slopes whisper tales of wind and time, while the blooming field below pulses with light and life. It is the meeting of mountain calm and fertile breath, an eternal dialogue between height and horizon.

In altri locali trovano inoltre ospitalità varie esposizioni temporanee.

---------------------

Torno unfolds like a small lakeside stage on Lake Como: colourful houses climbing toward the forest, vertical lines leading the eye, and warm side‑light carving out every detail. At the centre, the stone bell tower of the Church of Santa Tecla rises as a point of balance between water and mountain, a medieval landmark holding centuries of quiet devotion.

In this moment, photography becomes storytelling: colours shimmer, textures converse, and the village reveals its suspended harmony, shaped by history, architecture, and the calm breath of the lake.

🇭🇷 Vrbnik – pjesma uklesana u stijenu

🇬🇧 Vrbnik – a song carved in stone

Perched on a steep cliff rising from the blue Adriatic, Vrbnik is not just a town – it’s a place you feel with your heart. An old fishing and winemaking gem of the island of Krk, known for its history, language, wine, and the enduring spirit etched into every stone.

Vrbnik is the cradle of Glagolitic script, the oldest known Slavic alphabet, preserved for centuries in religious and legal texts. One of the first Croatian printed books – the Glagolitic Missal of 1483 – was born of this tradition.

But Vrbnik is not only about silence and history. It has a taste – the taste of Žlahtina, a white wine grape grown only on the surrounding hills. Light, refreshing, yet full of character – just like the town itself.

Wander its streets and you’ll find Klančić, one of the narrowest streets in Europe – so narrow you can only pass sideways, holding your breath. A symbol of Vrbnik’s modesty and charm.

Above it all stands the bell tower of the Church of the Assumption, a quiet sentinel over the sea. A photograph captures the view – but a story reveals the soul.

Come Vrbnik stesso.

In the forest’s hush, the Ural owl watches like an ancient guardian. Its dark eyes gather the world’s light, while its feathers, soft as unfallen snow, hold the forest’s breath. A presence that asks for nothing, yet tells everything.

Regno Unito, Galles, South Stack Lighthouse, Primavera 2016

The South Stack Lighthouse is built on the summit of a small island off the north-west coast of Holy Island, Anglesey, Wales. It was built in 1809 to warn ships of the dangerous rocks below. South Stack was quite a happy place until 25 October, 1853. That night one of the greatest storms hit the Anglesey coast. The keeper Jack Jones was struck on the head by a falling rock while he was trying to reach the lighthouse. He died later from his injuries. They say Jack's ghost can be heard pounding on the lighthouse door at night, or tapping on its windows, still in search of refuge.

Il viale delle foglie che cantano

.

Fra la fitta nebbia e l’albeggiar

d’una fredda mattina autunnale

nelle inquiete penombre

lunghi pianti singhiozzare.

A piedi nudi e passo incerto

coperta da un lercio

e fiorito abitino…

vaga, quasi danzando,

da sola una minuta bambina

fra le fredde lastre del viale.

Non lontan da lei

c’è un “angelo custode”

che,…fra le umide panchine e

le cadute foglie rinsecchite,

acquattato, fa capolino a vegliar

l’incerto volteggiar

e solitario vagar

di quell’anima solitaria.

Tutt’un tratto si ferma e

immobile rimane,

abbandonate e dritte

le sue esili braccia al corpicino

col capo chino a guardar

dei suoi piedini scalzi

le dita giocherellare fra

le foglie secche scricchiolare.

Pian pianino mi avvicino e…

fermo li rimane,

quell”angelo custode”

rimango solo io in quel freddo e lugubre viale.

The avenue of singing leaves

.

Between the thick fog and the dawn

of a cold autumn morning

in the restless shadows

of an avenue of centuries-old trees

you can hear a thread of a voice lamenting

and long sobbing cries.

Barefoot and with an uncertain step

covered by a dirty

and flowery dress…

a tiny little girl wanders, almost dancing,

alone

among the cold flagstones of the avenue.

Not far from her

there is a “guardian angel”

who,…between the damp benches and

the fallen dried leaves,

crouching, peeps out to watch

over the uncertain whirling

and solitary wandering

of that solitary soul.

Suddenly she stops and

remains still,

her slender arms stretched out and straight

her head bowed to watch

her bare feet

her fingers playing among

the dry leaves crackling.

I slowly approach her and...

she remains still there,

that "guardian angel"

scrutinizes me but lets me pass.

I address her but...

smiling and with a soft voice

she says to me: SSsss....can you hear them?, they are talking to me,

the leaves of the avenue are singing

they are my enchanted leaves.

I remain stunned and moved

frightened I turn towards...

a loud rustling of leaves swept by the wind

looking for someone, a relative

a mother who can explain to me.

But suddenly the silence becomes deathly

there is no one left, everything has vanished,

even that “guardian angel” has flown

I am the only one left in that cold and gloomy avenue.

Canto Della Terra - Andrea Bocelli

Eurasian Spoonbill among reeds, its spoon-shaped bill like a brush of light. Silent and proud, guardian of calm waters.

This photographic series was born from research conducted in the cemeteries of Giarre, Catania, and Lipari (Sicily). It is the continuation of a personal story I narrated in a previous series published on Flickr under the title "Hereafter," to which I refer for a full understanding of what follows (here the link: flic.kr/p/2qBy35g ). I would like to clarify that the facts reported here are as I experienced them. I established a cordial and sincere WhatsApp correspondence relationship with the psychic lady, whom I will call "the Lady." Thanks to the kindness of colleagues in the department who treated her, I sent her some of my photographic prints as gifts. They were images of angels taken from my Hereafter series ("the Lady" reports being in contact with the Angels, the Beings of Light). After that little gift, “the Lady” told me that after looking at one of those photographs – the one with the angel holding a palm in his hands – she had a “vision – or contact”. It was of a little girl, buried in that cemetery, to the left of that angel, speaking to her father, asking him to grant her a little wish – to receive as a gift a daisy picked in a meadow, not purchased from a florist. Feeling involved, I promised to bring a daisy to that little soul; but I completely forgot about it, many days passed, I contacted “the Lady” on WhatsApp, I asked her about her health, it was then that “the Lady” asked me “how is the little girl?” … I didn’t understand, I asked her which little girl she was talking about, she replied “the little girl with the daisy”… How could I have forgotten! I told her I'd go to the cemetery as soon as possible. Two days later, when I was free from work, I went to a field near my house, picked a small bunch of daisies, and went to the cemetery. I recognized the angel with the palm tree. I looked to its sides but found only adult graves. Directly below the angel, to its right (but to my left as I looked at it), there was a buried grave, with a cement headstone worn away by time and illegible. Just in case it was the little girl's grave, I went to the cemetery caretaker, hoping he could identify the person buried there. The caretaker replied that it was possible, but it was necessary to know at least the date of death, which was therefore impossible; the headstone was unreadable. Disconsolate, I returned to the angel. I had looked to the sides, in front, but not behind. I had this last chance. It was right there, to my great surprise and amazement, to the left of the angel but behind, that I found the buried tomb with this inscription: "Here was placed the little body of the lovely little girl Maria di Francesco Cardile, taken from the kisses of her parents on December 28, 1921, at just eight months old. Hail, dear little angel from heaven, pray for yours." Reading the word "baby" on the epitaph was the revealing word for me that this was the tomb I was looking for (I don't think it's common to find this term on the tomb of a deceased child), so I placed the daisies on that tomb. I told the "Lady" that I had found the little girl and that I had brought her the gift she had requested; A few days later, "the Lady" told me she had "seen" the little girl, who had introduced herself to her. She was joyful, thanking her father. Her little hands were clean, free of thorns and grass. Perhaps—"the Lady" interpreted—that was her way of saying thank you. I asked her how she managed to understand those souls, and the answer was that "they don't speak, they don't use words, but she can understand them anyway."

P.S.: "the Lady" didn't know where I had photographed those angels, which are in a cemetery far from Taormina. She couldn't have found that angel and gone there after seeing my photos. Furthermore, "the Lady" had come to Taormina for major surgery, coming from far away, from the other side of Sicily. I took most of the photos in this story with "lensbaby" lenses of various sizes. In Catania's monumental cemetery, I photographed the grave of the writer and leading exponent of Verismo, Giovanni Verga (many years ago I purchased a book entitled "Giovanni Verga, Photographer") and the grave of Angelo Musco (an Italian stage and film actor, nicknamed "the king of laughter"); of all the "encounters" in this series, the one that saddened me the most, for reasons related to my profession, was reading the inscription—about the incompetent doctor—"the girl died at the young age of 13."

Come avevo fatto a dimenticarmene !

Regno Unito, Londra, St. James's Park, Autunno 2021
