Volunteer Anthony Chicaiza in PERU Cusco at the PreMed Program 5 week program. "I want to gain a better understanding of South American healthcare systems while being able to help in any way I can. Volunteering in Quito really opened my eyes to just how big healthcare disparities can be on a national and international level. Lacking basic resources like gloves can impact entire medical practices, and I want to understand why things are the way they are by talking to physicians and residents. I strongly dislike volunteering that exists to simply sap resources from an already impoverished area just to boost someone's CV, so in volunteering, I hope to be able to give more than I take, through work and through kindness and understanding of patient needs".

I came to Cusco not knowing what to expect and I was so pleasantly surprised with the beauty, the customs and the people. I had the flexibility to create my own schedule and activities which was great in that it gave me the freedom to connect with the girls at the orphanage in my own way.
