When vanilla is cured, it must be rotated and stirred so that all of the vanilla beans catch the suns hot tropical rays. Because of their dark color, the beans get very hot and "sweat". They are then wrapped up in pieces of cloth and allowed to continue to "sweat" throughout the rest of the day and through the night. The next day, they would be ready for another 3-4 hours of curing in the tropical sun.
