I was planning to paint the bench light blue and black but it's failing apart so just gave it a quick once over. It will do for now.

I used Ronseal Garden Sage Matt Metal & wood paint on the bench, Cuprinol Garden shades Seagrass Matt Wood paint on the table top and Cuprinol Garden shades Sage Matt Wood paint on the table legs. The two sage colours are completely different. :)

… and a fence

I built this wall and fence 20 years ago, in 2003.

I didn’t know then that it would form part of, and support for the deck.

Initially it was just a dividing wall & fence between us and our next door neighbours.

In fact it’s a series of walls each one measuring 8 bricks long (or 1790mm) in between each wall is a 100mm x 100mm (4” x 4”) timber post which is concreted in.

When I was setting this out I first concreted the posts 1790mm apart. I then laid the foundation concrete, followed by building the walls.

By doing it this way I could build a solid fence on the top of the wall.

This Spring I’ll give the fence another coat of Cuprinol Ducksback fence paint, and it’ll be good for another couple of years … then I’ll paint it again.

I put the 6ft vertical boards on both sides of the horizontal boards that stretch from post to post; that way the wind can get through, but you can’t see through.

Where does the time go? 20 years ago!!!

I choose Cuprinol greens, its good quality outdoor paint thats ideal for garden buildings.

Given to:-

13 (16ft x 7” x 2”) spars

9 (8ft x 4”’x 4”) posts

Airing in the spring afternoon sun.

Hopefully I’ll be starting to build the ❓ next week... still waiting for some components to arrive.

What is it I’m building?

Complete and painted.

I’ve just built 5 of these raised flower / veg beds.

They’re made from 2” tanalised timber.

6ft long, 2ft high, 2”wide. The posts in the corners are 3” x 3”.

I painted them with Cuprinol Ducksback prior to building to match our fence and pergola etc.

I still have to attach an impermeable barrier to the insides.

I had to keep dashing the showers yesterday, it held me up quite a bit.

My wife can then decide what she wants in them.

They’ll all be situated in our back garden.

I couldn't resist photoshopping this image - it just screamed out at me "Do Something Different!"

In the UK, we have blue Cuprinol, a wood fence treatment, like creosote only 100% safe. So I thought, why not have our fence in blue too?

Last Thursday a gormless driver of a 20 tonne tarmac wagon reversed into our fence.

Not only did he reverse into our fence but he drove onto the stone flags at the front of our house. He dislodged a big flag which tilted it, so we can no longer go through our side gate. He cracked a smaller flag in half.

On Friday I got some new timbers from the woodyard and gave them two coats of paint (Cuprinol Ducksback). On Saturday morning I fixed the new timbers onto the fence.

When I built the fence in 2021 I built a concrete block retaining wall before I built the fence. No further damage was done to the fence or wall.

I need specialist lifting gear to sort the tilting stone flag out.

The company that owns the Tarmac wagon are going to pay for the damages, but I have to get prices.

The tarmac wagon was with others that were queued to do a job at the farm further up our lane.

I’m building 4 more raised bed planters

Today I gave them their first coat of stain (Cuprinol Ducksback).

Hopefully if the weather is good I can give them another coat tomorrow.

I will be making a 5th new one too, but I don’t know the exact measurements of that one until these four are built and correctly positioned.

With apologies for the quality of this scan copy which fails to do justice to driver Mike Foxwell's hard work (look at those Alcoas), Cuprinol's Scammell S26 HOU 709X stands at the National Motor Museum Beaulieu after the company was presented with the 1989 Commercial Motor Livery Award for Class Three (articulated and trailer combinations) - June 1989

Salvia 'Amistad' and Salvia 'Love and Wishes' looking great in early autumn sunshine. The shed is painted with Cuprinol Wild Thyme. It is a great colour to use in the garden, as it does not clash with flower colours and is restful to the eye.

A Cross Country class 170 passes the Network Rail Test Train in the loop at March. That shed looks in good condition it just requires a tin of Cuprinol.Could try a change of colour green to match the steps.

My first job in Transport was in 1988 with Cuprinol Ltd in Frome, Somerset. At the time they had a fantastic fleet of Scammell S26's running demountable boxes and tanks with drawbar trailers to distribute Wood Preservers, Varnishes and Paints nationwide. This picture from 1978 shows a Leyland Super Buffalo in the bottom yard, the main company offices can be seen above. The entire Frome site is now a housing estate(!) after ICI bought up the company and moved out of the town. The Scammells had already long since been sold off and largely exported in favour of selling the in-house distribution off to a large haulier for large scale distribution with artics and much handling and tran-shipping of product, at some point Bartrums Road Services were involved in this and a company called RDB (pretty sure they are no more).

In the mid 80s in an effort to improve the longevity of the Leyland T45 cabs on their fleet of Scammell S26s, wood preserver manufacturer Cuprinol encouraged their drivers to wash the vehicles with Red Cedar Preserver (see can bottom left of picture), I have no conclusive evidence as to whether this treatment was successful* as sadly the fleet was sold off and mostly exported in the early 90s. A Leyland Bison can be seen in the background. *Joking of course.

Scammell S26 OAE367Y in all her glory in Cuprinol's bottom yard at their old site at Adderwell in Frome, Somerset in 1988. Featuring a Rolls Royce 265 unit, ZF gearbox, double drive and of course the market leading T45 cab. The tanks and the box wagons were demountable which enabled a good deal of flexiiblity for UK wide distribution of tinned wood preservers to retail stores as well as bulk deliveries to commercial operations. At the time the Cuprinol fleet was 8 strong plus a 7.5 tonne Ford Cargo. After a 1989 re-livery which included the very clever "No one does wood more good" slogan (as opposed to the boring "Fully comprehensive home care" seen here, sadly the fleet was sold off (mostly if not all to export) and distribution was handled by a deal with a multi-user trunking operation, a great idea for nasty liquids in small individual cans to be handled carelessly by many individuals before reaching their destintion. I think the tankering of bulk liquids went to Wim Voss or Hoyer. For those of you watching on a Black & White set, the livery was White (clearly) with very dark brown and the main lettering in orange.

It was in better condition than I expected - enough to reuse the 20 year old frame. The upper timbers are not even tanalised as they didn’t have enough. I did paint it with Cuprinol

A neighbour was sorting out her shed and offered me two sets of very old wooden ladders.....she knows about my growing vintage/shabby chic love affair!

They were splattered with old paint but after a good sanding and two coats of Cuprinol they've come up as good as new.

One of Cuprinol's Scammell S26s hits the road with a box load of wood preserver product to be dropped off at a major DIY retailer for unloading whilst the truck delivers a tank load to a customer in the pre-treatment sector supplying industrial quality preservers to timber yards and manufacturers of finished products such as timber frames for housing, window and door frames, outdoor fencing etc. I joined the company in 1988 and they had been running their operation on this basis for many years by then, I clearly remember that the boxes were pretty rotten by then and constantly being patched up, particularly the back doors - Picture taken in 1986

The 1989 CM/ICI Autocolor Livery awards were presented at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, Hants. Wellingborough based contract-hire specialist the Harborne Group took the Class One award. Deans Farm (Goldenlay Eggs) topped Class Two and

Cuprinot's drawbar won Class Three. Development manager Jim Byrne (left) and distribution manager Roberto Cerioli collected the prize with "pleased as punch" driver Mike Foxwell. Cheer up Jim, you've won a award!

Day 246 - Giving the shed a much needed refresh this weekend. Ronseal's 'Harvest Gold' is replaced with Cuprinol's 'Coastal Mist' (it is a very pale blue).

Now it's raining of course.

The very essence of a "wagon and drag" drawbar trailer* operation. One of Cuprinol Ltd's fleet of Scammell S26s by, err ..... some trees (could be Longleat, could be Finland!), picture taken in 1984 - I did not take any of the images submitted to Flickr of this fleet, I merely rescued them from being chucked out when the in-house distribution operation was shut down and the fleet sold off. *I cannot fathom why the Flickr group DRAWBARS OF EUROPE rejected these Cuprinol images I tried to add to the group, I'm sure they are, as their own group definition has it, "All types of truck & trailer combinations from Europe". I am particularly annoyed by this slight as at this time (80s) this form of distribution in the UK was pretty ground breaking and worthy of acknowledging.

I'm still working on the back garden.

Check out the link below to see how it looked like last year:

www.flickr.com/photos/joyfullova/3494013025

For this year:

* the garage wall is newly painted in lavender (velvet ribbon 6 colour by dulux)

* the shed, wooden fences and raised beds are painted bright blue (barleywood colour by cuprinol). I haven't painted the fence behind the big rose bush as I don't want the paint to bleed into the neighbour's side of it.

* 4 new raised beds for vegetables/strawberries/flower plants (one made by a local artisan who sells them on ebay, and the 3 other ones built by my partner)

* I've added a kiwi tree to my mini orchard

Next I would like to paint the brick wall in bright pink.

Shed Painted With Cuprinol

Loaded to the gunnels, Cuprinol Scammell S26 A901 TOU outside the main warehouse at Adderwell, Frome in 1988. The entire wood preserver and paints range was delivered by these vehicles in this fashion, anything from a 125ml tin of varnish through 250ml, 1 litre, 2.5 litre, 5 litres, 25 litre buckets and of course the 200 litre (45 gallon) barrels seen here held in with metal bars. This entire box will have been a combination of all these different sized products for up to 20 different customers onboard, the barrels are at the rear purely as they would be the first customer in the drivers's run and as he went around he would unload towards the front of the vehicle until the box was completely empty (his last customer being right up the front as the first one to be loaded (all handballed on)).

Digitised image from the Town Hall Photographer's Collection - GB127.M850

The Town Hall Photographer’s Collection is a large photographic collection held in Manchester City Council’s Central Library archives, ranging in date from 1956 to 2007.

The collection consists of tens of thousands of images, covering the varied areas of work of Manchester Corporation and latterly, Manchester City Council.

The photographs were taken by staff photographers, who were tasked to document the work of Corporation/Council departments and, in doing so, captured many aspects of Manchester life and history, including significant changes to the Manchester landscape.

The collection includes many different formats from glass negatives, to slides, prints, CDs and even a couple of cine films.

What is especially exciting is that the majority of these images have never before been available in a digital format and therefore have only ever been seen by a handful of people.

A team of dedicated Staff and Volunteers are currently working on the systematic digitisation of the negatives held within the collection.

This album represents the result of their work to date.

The part you see has alpine mignonette strawberry plants (white and red), a volunteer tomato (that needs moving into a pot), a red kuri squash, a marrow (I think) and a few gladioli flower on the corner. the pink flowers are lavatera. All were grown from seed. You can also see a glimpse of my fence which I recently painted bright blue (barleywood colour by cuprinol).

i am using it to temporary grow small plants until i find a permanent place for them. the 2 pots in front have blueberries plants in them, and my camelia is thriving despite being in a non ericaceous compost.

I have no knowledge of this vehicle other than early 70s working for Cuprinol Ltd who produced Wood Preservative at their site in Frome, Somerset. Looks like quite a height to hand-ball heavy tins of chemicals from (no shrink-wrap or pallet trucks in those days I presume).

www.1001pallets.com/2016/01/top-10-inspirations-make-logs...

Winter is here, instead of buying a ready-made log shed, you may prefer to build it out of pallets. A wood store will provide ideal storage for your firewood to keep them tidy, dry and well ventilated.

If you start this project, remember to build one large enough to store at least one full load of logs. Another advice is also to consider dividing your logs into two different sections - one for seasoned wood ready to use and the other one with wood that requires further seasoning.

Beside the pleasure to build it, you can easily save several hundred dollars/euros/etc... Since log sheds can be found in this price range. Using 1 to 30 pallets, depending on the size of your log shed, here are below the best inspirations we found, with the links to sources when possible.
