Silicone baking cups for the Macro Mondays challenge: "multicolor." Area shown is about 2.75 inches square.

Happy Macro Monday!

The afternoon winter trek up High Cup Nick was certainly worth it. We encountered very few people all afternoon and had some really nice light as we climbed along the ridgeline to the head of the Valley.

Whilst at the top we did spot a couple of walkers make their way down the steep cliffs and then walk along the valley bottom, by the Gill. Neither of us had actually contemplated doing this before, we usually just retraced our path back down the Pennine Way to Dufton.

Having looked at the OS Map we saw that there was a track down in the valley, but it would involve a much longer walk back to Dufton.

Looking at the clouds on the far horizon it did look like we would get some late light shining up the valley before sunset. So we decided to go for this, in the hope of getting some different shots from down in the valley floor looking back up to the head of the valley.

The climb down was not for the feint hearted, being very steep and slippy, but it was the best decision we made, as we were treated to some great late sunlight and a few new compositions. So here is the first one and I'm sure John Bleakley will have some better ones from this part of our days 13 mile walk.

The leaves hold water which little birds drink from and once they bloom the bees go crazy for the blooms. I planted it near fence to try to block deer, but they just come in a different way.

Still Life project

Paris has the Eiffel Tower, San Francisco the Golden Gate Bridge, and Saint Louis The Gateway Arch. However, tiny Wilson Borough, Pennsylvania, just outside of Easton City limits, has the iconic Dixie Cup. Situated atop the long shuttered Dixie Cup Factory (not to be confused with the second, more modern, and also closed Dixie Cup Factory in nearby Forks Township, PA) the Dixie Cup is actually just a tall water tower disguised and painted to look like a giant disposable paper cup. For those unlucky enough to have to drive through traffic along that stretch of Route 22 East heading toward New Jersey, the Dixie Cup has sort of become a local statue, a familiar yet seemingly timeless symbol unique to the Lehigh Valley. Recently, I noticed work has begun on the old Dixie Cup Factory; supposedly it is going to be renovated into apartments. However, whether or not the iconic Dixie Cup water tower survives, is unknown. In any event that it does not, here is a photograph to remember it by.

This is the first time we've tried to grow cyclamen, but they seem to be doing ok in our small tea cups!!

J’adore les contrastes en photographie et en noir et blanc évidemment !!! ♥️

Another shot taken on a memorable walk up to High Cup Nick with pal John Bleakley.

We had had a long day starting out early up on the Old Corpse Road above Haweswater before coming here for the afternoon. By this point we had climbed up to the top of the Nick from Dufton, (as you can see at the head of the valley here), and then descended the cliffs at the top, walking down to this spot by the wall and Gill.

The light just suddenly exploded with this low, golden, winter light illuminating the valley and the top of the Cliffs. It was just fabulous whilst it lasted and we fired off plenty of frames to capture the scene. Before the long walk back to Dufton in the dark.

You know that drink that only comes in the copper cup like that, that is what I want.
