Ok, the Forbes Portrait was still missing something (not talking about the suit here). Neither was the sky dramatically blue nor was the contrasting face really orange. So I thought I'd overdo it for a change and put two full CTOs on the flash. The first to convert the flash to the tungsten white balance that turned the sky into this rich blue and a second to get a warmer skin tone for colour contrast. Result: Not enough power. So I added another flash. And here we go: It's completely overdone. I guess next time I'll try 1 1/2 CTO for this.

Shot at f/11, 1/250s, ISO100 for (slightly) underexposed sky.

Strobist info: See next image in stream for setup. Two flashes from camera left at full power through 2 CTO gels (2 for each) and an umbrella. A2-sized white reflector taped to open door to camera right to bring up the shadows.

PP: Crop and levels. White balance was set to "tungsten" in camera and not changed in post.

Question: Why does my Sony A700 show a red-channel histogram that ends just a bit above medium gray (camera set to tungsten!) but ACR tells me I have to underexpose one and a half stops in order to prevent that channel to blow out???

Experimenting with CTO gel and WB: Soligor 30D at 1/16 camera right with Rosco CTO, WB set to tungsten. The sky was overcast gray that late afternoon.

It's a test/experiment, so the subject is still me.
