After the Great Lakes Postal Service reported the loss of three small planes in four months and the sighting of an enormous winged animal by one of the returning pilots, Chester Kilroy - aspiring wildlife photographer and relative of a renowned archeologist - tests his luck and sets out to capture on film what he hopes to be a long lost relative to the surviving clade of Pterosaur, for whose existence his uncle claims to have tracked down proof in medieval scrolls.
Recently the band has aquired an unusually sturdy flying boat, the 'Fat Swan', from a remote air mail outpost and are following the last route of one of the missing planes.
Will Chester and his companions cross paths with their unknown adversary? Will they make a sensational discovery and return with undeniable proof? Will they return at all?
