Hello, my name is Ariel. I am a beautiful little girl - inside and out. I was born June 12, 2018. I have had a rough go of it. First I was born with eye issues, then I ended up homeless in a crowded animal shelter. Luckily, this nice lady came and got me. She took me home where I got a nice, warm, safe place to sleep (her neck and shoulders are my favorite spot), then it was off to the specialist to try and save my eyesight. My right eye was beyond repair and so we had it removed and I instantly felt so much better. I also underwent cryotherapy to save my other eye and that went really well too. I will need my new family to take me to some follow-up appointments in a few months, but Paws for Life will cover those costs. They just want to make sure I get all the specialized treatment I need to be 100% me. Now, let me tell you all about wonderful me. Nothing slows me down. I love everyone. I play hard and I love other kitties. Even more than that, I love the humans. I will follow you around and help you with the laundry, the sweeping (I like to ride on the roomba robot vacuum) and anything else you might need. I am always here for you. I am a loving, constant companion. I always use the litterbox like a good girl. I am able to climb stairs, no problem, but going down is not as easy, so I need a home without a lot of stairs or I need a home with people who will monitor me carefully so I don't get hurt. Please give me a chance! I am a super loving, affectionate sweetheart who needs someone to love for life! Adoption fee: $100. Adopt a pair: $150. Background information: A child with a Group D retinoblastoma in one eye has been treated with systemic chemotherapy and the main tumour has calcified. However, a new tumour has formed peripherally/anteriorly which was detected at a regular follow-up visit. Regular follow-up is essential as new tumours can be difficult to detect in the early stages.

In this image: The new peripheral tumour has been treated with two sessions of triple freeze-thaw cryotherapy, spaced 3 weeks apart, resulting in a flat scar. If the tumour had not been detected during a regular follow-up visit, the child would have returned with an untreatable tumour in the eye which would have required enucleation and the child would have been at risk of metastasis and death.

Breathable air vapour from the open door of the CRYO Arctic Whole Body Chamber after pre-cooling made ready for a cryotherapy session

So... Monday was a shit day, it started with a fekkin Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment in the same eye that I had the Vitreous Detachment a few days back.... Anyway, it was a, 'have the surgery or go blind' job...

Needless to say, I'm well pissed off... The 'eye vet' has sucked the jelly gubbins out of my eyeball (a vitrectomy), zapped the tear with a cryotherapy probe and pumped it up with a Sulfur hexafluoride gas tamponade, which should hold the retina back in place against the inner eye wall.

Here's a quick 'Post-Op' shot for you to marvel at...Tis a tad sore, and I can't focus cos of the gas.

....imagine the day looking through the bubble of a spirit level...

I won't know if it's worked for a few more weeks yet :@(

But on the up side... I don't have to carry the shopping anymore... :@)
