I find the skull and crossbones interesting on this, especially as it is at the entrance to a church (Niuewe Kerk, see day 226).
The Crossbones burial ground in Southwark, South London, was used between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries as a mass burial site primarily for paupers, prositutes and plague victims. The site has never been recognised or consecrated as a graveyard and since its closure in 1851 - due to reaching an unimaginable capacity - it has remained in limbo, unusable for development and unrecognised but for the attempts captured in these photographs. The campaigners make a pilgrimage to the gates every Haloween to leave asorted offerings and ribbons marking those whom they believe to be buried at Crossbones.

Crossbones (real name Brock Rumlow) is an enemy of Captain America in the comics. In the film Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he is an assassin who works for Alexander Pierce and HYDRA as a sleeper agent within S.H.I.E.L.D. and in this film he served as the hidden tertiary antagonist, while in the sequel; Captain America: Civil War, he appears as a minor villain.
Master Hand-To-Hand Combatant/Martial Artist: Crossbones was one of the world's best hand-to-hand combatants, with extensive training in street-fighting, military combatants, and various forms of martial arts, He has trained extensively with the Taskmaster to the point where he was actually made an instructor at the Taskmaster's school for criminals.
Expert Marksman: Crossbones was a superior marksman with guns, crossbows, and throwing knives.
Skilled Torturer/Brainwasher: Crossbones had some experience with torture and brainwashing, having effectively "reprogrammed" Sin and nearly so with Diamondback.
Expert Pilot: Crossbones was a capable pilot.

Located in downtown Atlanta, GA behind the Norfolk Southern Building, this set was made to look like Nigeria, where Captain America confronts Crossbones.
Cross Bones graveyard and gardens in the site of a post medieval cemetery in the Borough. It is at the junction of Union Street and Redcross Way. Originally used in the 17th century for the burial of single women in unconsecrated ground, later used for the burial of paupers. It was closed in the 1850s. There may be up to 15,000 packed in one above the other.

A warning to those who may find the capsule after landing
The spherical Vostok-type space capsule displayed here flew unmanned in Earth orbit in the 1980s. Its exterior is identical in all important respects to that of the Vostok 1 capsule that carried Yuri Gagarin into orbit on April 12, 1961.
Vostok's appearance, capabilities, and possible roles in the Soviet space program remained mysterious for many years. In the first years of the space race, the Soviet spacecraft seemed far beyond anything the U.S. could achieve. The painstaking efforts of Western sleuths and the fall of the USSR in 1991 gradually solved the many mysteries of Vostok.
The saddest thing ever. Rare & Racy, the magnificent book/music/art shop established on Devonshire Street in Sheffield in 1969, closed for good on Saturday 8th July 2017 (having stayed open for an extra week due to public demand!). This was not out of choice but they've been forced to close so Sheffield City Council can demolish the lovely row of old shops to build new shops and student flats, like we need more of those. A week before closing artist Phlegm removed his mural from above the sign and replaced it with a new skull & crossbones piece...
I found this wonderful table tomb with a skull and crossbones on the other side of the footpath which runs through the ruined church at Church Ope Cove.

It never occured to me that the "Skull and Crossbones" seen on pirate flags might have had a real-world origin. That is, until I saw them for myself.
